I seem to get my best light and conditions in Summer, when the sun's heat drives conditions a little harder
A long hike!
Photo taken on March 20th, 2016.
Today's outing with the Environmental Cultural Club of Attica www.peripolo.gr was to visit the Ancient quarries of Mount Pentelikon where the world renowned marble was taken from, which was used to build the Acropolis and other Ancient Monuments. The stone was moved down to the city with an intricate network of carts and pulleys.
The ancient quarry is protected by law, and used exclusively to obtain material for the Acropolis Restoration Project. This roadway, used to transport marble blocks from the quarry to the Acropolis in antiquity, is a continual downhill, and follows the natural lay of the land. It has been researched and fully documented by the chief Acropolis restoration architect, Professor Manolis Korres, in his award-winning book "From Pentelicon to the Parthenon". A monastery is also located in the middle of the mountain, north-east of city centre.

The National Archaeological Museum of Athens is the largest archaeological museum in Greece and one of the most important museums in the world devoted to ancient Greek art. It was founded at the end of the 19th century to house and protect antiquities from all over Greece, thus displaying their historical, cultural and artistic value.
The construction of the museum's building began in 1866 and was completed in 1889, with the initial plan conceived by the architect Ludwig Lange. It was later modified by Panages Kalkos who was the main architect, Harmodios Vlachos and Ernst Ziller.

Another product of our recent week in North Caroline, this exposure was made about ten minutes after a virtually invisible sunrise on a very cloudy, dark morning. Sort of a blue hour, I set the white balance to daylight, rendering it in the blues.
Taken in Nea Makri on "Clean Monday", the 1st day of Lent, February 27, 2017. Traditionally in Greece it is a holiday and the beginning of a period of fasting leading up to Easter.
NEA MAKRI - ΝΕΑ ΜΑΚΡΗ, ΚΑΘΑΡΑ ΔΕΥΤΕΡΑ 2017.
Nea Makri is located in the northeastern part of Attica, Greece.
It is a small, picturesque coastal resort town about 32 km from Athens, and exactly 10 km from Marathon (the starting point of the classic Marathon run).

This is the same plant seen in Amaryllis 1, 2, and 3, several days later. The toll taken by time is evident, but I for one still find this blossom beautiful. This is an 18-image focus stack, so it will reward very, very close examination.

Taken during the long "May Day" weekend, while my beloved English wife Theresa Jane Brown and I were visiting friends on the beautiful island of Evia, Greece.
EVIA ISLAND, GREECE.
The island of Evia lies along the Eastern coast of Central Greece, and is accessible to the mainland via two bridges, an old wooden bridge and a contemporary suspension bridge. There are also frequent ferries to several parts of the island. It is 175 km long and is the second largest island in Greece, and the third largest in the Eastern Mediterranean.

Sketching shot for the Bronica. Managed the first shot one one film then waited 30 minutes for the light again
Another shot from my recent vacation, this one was a Photoshop project. The sun was blown out, so I had to try to make it look colored. And the shot had my wife and our dog Riley almost at the edge of the frame, so I had to stretch the sliver to Riley's right, and then correct a bit for the elongated and blocky shadow just under them, and correct for the remarkably long building on the horizon that resulted from the stretch. I'm not sure it's all been done perfectly, but I'm satisfied with the result. The image was exposed about eleven minutes after sunrise according to one website.

LIMNI - ΛΙΜΝΗ
Limni, on the island of Evia, is a small port, beach and tourist resort, which is beautiful the whole year round. It is located 80 km NW of Chalkida and about 150 km from Athens.

There are also frequent ferries to several parts of the island. It is 175 km long and is the second largest island in Greece, and the third largest in the Eastern Mediterranean.

“The only person you are destined to become is the person you decide to be.” ~Ralph Waldo Emerson
Want to avoid the weekend crowds in the Columbia River Gorge, but still enjoy the lush greens and refreshment of a waterfall. So Annette and I made the easy decent down to Spirit Falls, which of course turns into a intense leg burn on the way out! I am always amazed at the pure beauty of the turquoise water and power of this falls.
Tulips: they're always different, and I never seem to get tired of them. I hope you don't either. If you look closely at this one, you'll find water droplets and cob webs.
This image was made with a Nikon D810 and an AF-D 105mm 2.8 Micro Nikkor lens, and exposed for 1 second at f/36 and ISO 64.
This is certainly not at the 1:1 magnification of which this lens is capable, but it's approaching it, probably around 1:2 or 1:3.
