DPAC takes coffin full of messages to ATOS HQ - 29.08.2012
As the rest of the country waited for the evening's Paralympic Games opening ceremony to begin, activists from DPAC, WinVisible and the Direct Action Network (DAN) delivered a coffin to the doors of ATOS Origin's Headquarters, with messages from the relatives and loved one of sick and disabled people who have been through the French IT company's much-reviled Work Capability Assessment and who were all taken off the benefits which made their lives both possible and bearable, and who all died or committed suicide shortly afterwards.

Finally a security guard that didn't shout at me. I like the Tate - as long as a flash doesn't go off you can do what you like photographically, although I haven't attempted tripodery.
Oh to dive into that sea of ceramic. Although it is beginning to look a bit fluffy around the edges, I should imagine a good hoover is out of the question. Rattle rattle.

A closer view of the other guard on permanent guard duty at the Canadian Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Ottawa, Canada. Both the guards were quite stiff and unmindful of my pointing my dSLR at them repeatedly. I did keep my distance though. Respect for the dead notwithstanding, I was really beginning to pity both the guards, standing in one place in full uniform for hours on end. (Ottawa, Canada, June 2015)
It was a little smaller than I expected but very grand nonetheless. There was a security guard stationed on top of the roof - I expect vertigo is not a good thing to have in that job!

In earlier captions, I had spoken about a shrine to a god and one to a monkey on either side of the entrance to the Japanese Covered Bridge. While I did not photograph the monkey shrine, here is the dog shrine. The reasons for these two shrines are not very clear, though some suggestions do appear in the previous captions. A shrine to a dog seemed very strange to me at this point, especially as dogs are eaten in this part of the country. (see pictures earlier in this album). (Hoi An, Central Vietnam, Nov. 2016)
