Tour of Duty. You don't have a chance to get to know them too well. By the time you know their names, they would have completed their tour of duty at this address to take up another.
Lately you don't come across familiar names that coloured the Gurkha Regiment when Malaysia was Malaya.
Their surnames no longer invoke the kukri warriors in them. I am sure, given a different uniform, they'd change from a docile, soft spoken security guards into a regiment that make enemies shudder knowing they are coming to attack.

Right before I was asked to stop taking pictures at a local outdoor mall, I saw the security guards (three no less) approaching. I snapped this picture in the vain hope that they would think I was just photographing trees.
No dice.
I was told that I couldn't take pictures by myself. I had to be WITH someone. (???)
They even said "You can't take pictures of trees by yourself."
Sigh.

DPAC takes coffin full of messages to ATOS HQ - 29.08.2012
As the rest of the country waited for the evening's Paralympic Games opening ceremony to begin, activists from DPAC, WinVisible and the Direct Action Network (DAN) delivered a coffin to the doors of ATOS Origin's Headquarters, with messages from the relatives and loved one of sick and disabled people who have been through the French IT company's much-reviled Work Capability Assessment and who were all taken off the benefits which made their lives both possible and bearable, and who all died or committed suicide shortly afterwards.

Election campaign event of the right-wing populist party AfD (Alternative for Germany) on May 1st in Dresden.
In view of predicted electoral successes, the AfD and its supporters are being aggressively attacked by the German government parties, supported by secret services, the press, various associations, churches and unions, in an apparently coordinated campaign. This anti-AfD campaign is therefore led by those whose policies made the right-wing populists so strong in the first place.
The government parties (SPD, Greens, FDP), the opposition CDU and the Left are hardly distinguishable from one another for many citizens and their policies are seen as disastrous. The loss of trust in state institutions and the press is higher than ever before in the history of the Federal Republic!
