The Longhorn Cowfish (Lactoria cornuta) is a strange-looking fish, a variety of boxfish, recognizable by its long horns that protrude from the front of its head, rather like those of a cow or bull.

These horns make them hard for predators to swallow. In any case their flesh is poisonous and would not make for a very good meal.

The longhorn cowfish's standard color is yellow ranging to olive with white or blue-white spots, but other morphs exist with orange or green coloration. No visible differences between male and female fish. They are a resident of the Indo-Pacific region and can grow up to 45 cm long. Its primary habitat is coral reefs in lagoons, on reef flats, and on protected seaward reefs. Depth range is 1–45 m, perhaps up to 100 m. In the wild, a single male are usually found with a group of females.

Longhorn cowfish are omnivorous and can be observed in the wild searching for benthic invertebrates in the sand, eat various marine algae, and snacking upon snails, tubeworms, and small fish.

This picture was taken in Burgers Ocean, a part of Burgers Zoo in Arnhem, the Netherlands.

I took this photo with my Nikon D8ooE and the AF-S Nikkor 28-300mm f3.5-5.6G ED VR lens.

The two sea fishing man were fishing on a very tiny rock in the sea. It looks very dangerous for me but I think it's a peace of cake for them.

I went down to catch the low Spring Tide, but was too late.

So I end up putting yet another silhouette and sunbeams photo up.

"On my way for picking up apples on an old apple tree in the nearby field, I met Jean, "Hi! how are you doing Jean?"

Jean: "well! as an old peasant, you know I am 83’ …oh well, for some time now, I’m feeling worried about all damage (we all) caused to the “Bocage” decades ago… But besides everything's going fine.... Hep! before you go, just Have a look around, the sun is still shining, and I can hear Birdsong… You got it?" Read more from pentyofamelie blog post (All on That Day On My Way)

Nice bloke, Canny Lad as they say up there.

Have you ever bought a camera and then sold it only to regret that sale later? I bought a Contax T2 about 16 years ago but mainly used it to take slide shots which I then turned into prints to run through a day lab to make polaroid transfers. I never appreciated the amazing quality of the lens and the fact a point and shoot could produce such great results. I let it go cheaply as funds were tight but I see second hand T2s are highly prized still today.

Unusually I have been unable to find any other photos/information about this stock?

This was a difficult but also enjoyable sketch and leaves plenty of room for improvement. The girls would usually work in two's or there's, two girls would gut and salt the herrings and the third would pack the fish into barrels. This would have been a common sight in the late eighteenth and nineteenth century.

Each figure is made from steel wire carefully woven by hand around a steel armature then hot-dip galvanised.
