12 April 2011 marked one of the best nights of my life seeing The Script live at Fort Canning Park.

Before the ninth century, there were a variety of rectilinear scripts but after the 10th century, broken cursive emerged. It was canonized by Ibn Muqla . However, the broken cursive style of writing remained problematic because it was not compact and continued to be elongated, such as specific letterforms extending horizontally. Between the 10th and 11th century, Ibn al-bawwab transformed the broken cursive into a rounder script to make them eligible for readers to read. The scripts were grouped and called the six pens: riqa, muhaqqaq, raayan, naskh, thuluth, and tumar. The round script is clear and compressed, which made the flow of the text readable . The OSU manuscript of The Qur’an thus follows Ibn Al bawwab’s development of naskh, which means copying. Naskh is a balance between flat and round shapes of letters with a mix of thin and thick strokes. The round script of Naskh makes it readable by modern readers. It is currently the modern typography that standardized the Naskh script of The Qur’an.

World Tipiṭaka Presentation Japan
With the 40-volume World Tipiṭaka in Roman Script displaying in the central hall, Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn is seen in a group photograph with recipients of World Tipitaka Edition which takes place in the inner quarter of Prince Shotogu, Shitenoji, Osaka.
Institutional Representatives from Thailand include Air Chief Marshal Chalit Pookpasook, Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Air Force; His Excellency Chat Chonlavorn, President of the Constitutional Court of Thailand, Professor Porntip Pookpasook and Professor Annop Kunavongkrit of Chulalongkorn University.
The Royal Thai Air Force received the permission from the late HRH Princess Galyani Vadhana, the Royal Matriarch of Thailand, to specially organise the transportation of the royal gift of the World Tipiṭaka to be presented for the people of Japan.
