Tree stumps always look forlorn to me. Looking at their scarred remains, you wonder why they were cut down & what stories they could tell. This stump caught my eye in Caerleon, Wales, UK.
The track back down to Stainforth from Catrigg Force makes for a nice image. Particularly if you get some nice light and cloud interest, which were absent on this occasion unfortunately!
That said, I had just taken my best ever image of Catrigg Force, even though the water levels were very low. On every other visit the water prevented me from getting the shot I really wanted and the narrow gorge was full of fallen trees and branches making the shots quite cluttered. Today the gorge had been cleared of many of the fallen trees and the low water levels meant you could get well into the gorge and get a nice shot of the cascade. I'll post that shot later this week.
This was the half way point of a very nice day out in the Dales with John Bleakley, Terry Roberts and our visiting American buddy Brad Eide.

Looking south from Scout Scar, Kendal, Cumbria. The view is down the Lyth Valley towards the River Kent estuary, Arnside and Morecambe Bay. A cold, clear winter's day, New Year 2026.
Scout Scar, also called Underbarrow Scar, is in the English Lake District, west of Kendal, Cumbria, above the village of Underbarrow. It reaches 235 metres. Included in Alfred Wainwright's "The Outlying Fells of Lakeland". It has magnificent 360° views, including many of Lakelands' principal peaks. There is a vertical drop on the right-hand side of over 100 metres.
It's a designated SSSI and features Carboniferous Limestone pavements, as well as Whitebeam, Ash, and Rowan trees.
Finaly home from my epic trip to beautiful Scotland, the weather wasn't always great but the scenery and experience was unforgetable. I covered over 2,500 miles, now to edit all those photos :-) This shot was taken on my stopover in the Yorkshire Dales. Taken from Twistleton Scar looking across the valley towards snow topped Ingleborough.
Quite alone, this fading barn roars in silence at the past, every board showing hard use and yet still standing tall. If we look closely an older person's countenance often reflects the battles of life that took all they had to get to the end.

Howick Scar at low tide believe it or not, gave me the opportunity to get right out, mind the swell was still quite big so had my wits with me to watch for any rogue waves, i dare not venture any further as that rock is on such an angle one slip and your in!
Me! Scarred, broken, damaged! I will survive, always do.
