I sit next to this ancient-looking scanner. It looks like something built by C. Itoh in 1983.
The other day a new office-drone came over with some heavyweight paper to scan. For no good reason I said to him, "you shredding that or scanning it?"
"ummmmm scanning"
"well then you better make sure it's in scanning mode. Last person used it in shred mode."
"ummmm how do I tell what mode it's in?"
"I don't know. I don't work in the back-office."
"ummm who used it last?"
"Didn't recognize her."
Then I returned to my work.
Minutes later the guy fed some scrap papers through the machine to make sure it wasn't in shred mode.
