Today I had the opportunity to visit with Bill Lu and his staff at the workshop of P-R Laser in Shanghai. They manufacture scanners, small DPSS lasers and assemble those into systems for the domestic and export markets. Here we can see scanner armatures being wound and coated.
I think there might have been some film over the area the scanner uses to calibrate itself. Whatever caused it, I like the effect.

This image was “photographed” on a scanner. A large portobello mushroom was placed gill side down on the scanner glass. As the scanning unit moved, the mushroom on the glass was moved intermittently, maintaining a rough tandem alignment between the mushroom and scanner carriage. The resulting image appears “rasterized” into several horizontal bands. This was used as a texture to be combined with other images. Shown is a mashup with a colorful abstract painting ( see “citrucolor spin art” elsewhere in this photostream). Two views are presented, the final result and a tiled image showing the source images.

I used electrical tape to hold the scanner glass in place. Obviously, this won't last forever so I'll have to get a new scanner eventually.

Next to my desk in my 'office' is my scanner. I was moving things around and happened to set the fan on the scanner for a bit. It wound up staying there longer than it should! That is a big topographic map of Tono on the wall in back.
