here you see a scanner with the cover off and the light pulled out. A strip of paper is taped to the scanner bar and will travel with the scan. The images is a projection of a lantern slide. As the scaner scanns the lantern slide an image is formed.
I took the light bulb out of the scanner and tried to scan but just rendered streaks. The paper is held onto the scanner bar with two pieces of blue tape. I believe some of the streaks on the picture are artifacts of the pulp of the paper. Some could be from the streaking of varnish on the slide. There is a light vertical flash above the roll of paper the character is carrying. this might be an artifact of the scanner altering its exposure or a flash of light from the projector as the scanner passes directly in front of the lens.
