Ho trovato in un mercatino delle piastre fotografiche di vetro, che evidentemente sono la riproduzione di foto (notare le spille). Sono della prima guerra mondiale. Ritraggono l’esito devastante dei gas dell’esercito austroungarico, che attaccò di sorpresa l’esercito italiano il 29 giugno del 1916 sul monte San Michele
Sebbene si tratti di un attacco minore dal punto di vista delle forze impegnate, rimane nelle cronache come il primo con l'ausilio di gas effettuato sul fronte italiano. Alle 5 e 15 del mattino del 29 giugno 1916 vennero aperte le 6000 bombole contenenti una miscela di cloro e fosgene, già distribuite alcuni giorni prima. I gas calarono sulle trincee della prima linea dell'XI Corpo d'Armata, occupate da battaglioni della 21ª e 22ª divisione, trovando i soldati italiani completamente impreparati e uccidendone a migliaia. Gli occupanti della seconda linea inizialmente fuggirono terrorizzati davanti alle nuvole di gas e i veterani ungheresi dei battaglioni delle divisioni 17a e 20a Honvéd non ebbero difficoltà ad occupare le trincee. Più tardi però i battaglioni italiani si riorganizzarono, anche approfittando della distribuzione ineguale del gas, e offrirono una resistenza rabbiosa e inaspettata. Anche grazie al bombardamento mirato sulla retroguardia italiana, che ostacolò l'arrivo dei rinforzi, e malgrado un cambio del vento che causò la morte di centinaia di attaccanti, i battaglioni ungheresi consolidarono le posizioni occupate e l'attacco fu considerato dagli austroungarici un successo, con la perdita di meno di 2000 uomini a fronte di perdite italiane immediate di quasi 7000 uomini.

This scan was done from top to bottom, and passed through the center exactly when the seconds hand was horizontal.
La scannerizzazione è avvenuta dall'alto in basso, passando dal centro proprio quando la lancetta dei secondi era orizzontale. I piccoli segmenti bianchi sono dovuti alla lancetta dei secondi che si muove a scatti, una volta al secondo. Nota: guardando la versione grande si apprezza anche una curvatura nella lancetta dei minuti.
Per vedere invece cosa succede scannerizzando un orologio in cui la lancetta dei secondi si muove in modo continuo, vedere questa foto.
