From the 400m summit of Mt. Vision a view of the countryside of west Marin extends inland. Mt. Vision is a feature of Point Reyes National Seashore and hosts a diverse environment distinctly different from the terrain west of the San Andreas Fault which separates this parkland from the mainland. Since Point Reyes peninsula is on the Pacific Tectonic Plate and is moving imperceptibly northwards (about 2 to 5cm per year) the geology and biology are unique to this zone.

Branding

This is the tiny metal medallion on my new scanner. This is a very well known brand in office equipment. They make excellent products! I wanted to add a little drama to this shot, using Topaz. I like how the light is reflecting on the circle and the letters!

Bolinas Ridge forms the western escarpment of the San Andreas Fault Valley in Point Reyes National Seashore. An old growth Douglas Fir forest covers the often fog-shrouded heights with the lower slopes covered in chaparral and grassland. A network of trails gives hikers access to most areas of the 71,000 acre park.

Several hours trek from the gates of Machu Picchu lie the ruins of Wiñay Wayna. In 1975 they were not often visited since the big tourist attraction was a day trip to Machu Picchu. These deserted ruins became our first night stop on an Inca Trail trek. Spending the night here was an eerie experience.

Just inside the San Francisco Bay is a Coast Guard Station and yacht marina at Cavallo Point. The Travis Air Force Base continues to operate the Sailing Marina Center at the Presidio Yacht Club. The Travis Sailing Center is a recreational activity of the 60th Services Squadron, Travis AFB dedicated to providing recreational and boating opportunities to all active duty, reserve, and retired US Armed Services, Coast Guard, federal civilian, and CG Auxiliary members. Fort Baker is in the background. It has recently been converted into a conference center while retaining the original military architecture.
