There are a dozen or so species of oak in the Northern California costal area. The valley oaks are impressive.

The beauty of this peninsula is breathtaking.

Tierradentro tombs were elaborately decorated and adorned with statues and idols as well as gold and silver artifacts.

Much of what we know of the Mayan culture comes from the hieroglyphs and figures carved in their stela.

Penataran Sasih was the state temple of the Pejeng Kingdom, 1293 - 1343 AD. It has many ancient and rather weathered Hindu sculptures that were brought here from other parts of the island.

In the weeks before the rains arrive all of tropical México is ablaze in agricultural burning, resulting in a suffocating, humid and smoky haze. The tepid heat and haze are stifling and do not create optimum photographic conditions.

At the summit (approximately 4,200m) I placed the camera on a rock and set it for a 10-second delay and stepped back into the frame.

After the conclusion of the California Midwinter International Exposition of 1894, Makoto Hagiwara, a Japanese immigrant and gardener, approached John McLaren with the idea to convert the temporary exhibit into a permanent park. Hagiwara personally oversaw the building of the Japanese Tea Garden and was official caretaker of the garden from 1895 to 1925.

The architecture of San Francisco is quite varied, from the modern skyscrapers to the vintage wooden Victorians of the 1800s. I have always been impressed with the detail and style of the Victorian houses. Their preservation is a point of pride for many San Franciscans.

Grace Cathedral is an Episcopal cathedral located on Nob Hill in San Francisco. It is the cathedral church of the Episcopal Diocese of California and is well-known for it's beautiful stain glass window panels.

The ruins of Chichén Itzá indicate a large city under a very sophisticated administration.

A young performer steps to the podium of the Spreckels' Temple of Music which was built in 1900, a gift of sugar magnate, Claus Spreckels.

The music concourse was originally constructed as a grand court for the 1894 California Mid-winter International Exposition. It was completed in 1900 when the music pavilion, commonly known as the Temple of Music, was constructed.
