Soaking up the late Autumn sun are the last of the leaves. This gate leads from the woods out into the open spaces beyond - thus the title.

Les derniers moments de couleur avant le gel et la neige...

I am pleased with the focus on this one - the grass emerges clearly in its own right.

C'est tout de même joli...

There’s something about fences that makes me want to vault over them. Two problems. Firstly, the area behind the fence is very watery. Secondly, my vaulting days are over, although I’m sure I could still climb over more slowly....but won’t.....

This image was taken at Cley Marshes, where the sights are matched in beauty by the sounds.

Hibiscus flower after the rain .

I saw this field of poppies in Norfolk. There was a red haze of them.. It was truly remarkable. I wandered around taking photographs with the iPhone and the big camera for ages totally immersed.

One of the many paths of Longwood Gardens. Are these red daisies?

Sadly I don't have a lot of photos of flowers from Longwood Gardens because this part of the tour was after 6:00 pm and it was getting dark, specially inside. I deleted a lot of photos because they were blurry or with too much noise. I don't have a macro flash for this camera yet.

From this time last year. I love the sweep of the road and the autumn colours. I think it breaks a few rules of composition, but it works for me.

This hyacinth was in flower on a grave at Farleigh Wallop when I saw it 10th January. How appropriate; the Victorian interpretation is loveliness and " I shall be praying for you."

Graphosoma lineatum е вид полутвърдокрило насекомо. Обитава умерините зони на Европа до Средна Азия. Обитава растения от семейство Сенникоцветни и се храни със семена

The Striped Shieldbug is easily identified. It is a black bug with five distinct red lines on the pronotum. Or the other way around if you want... On the underside the Striped Shieldbug is red as well, but here it has black spots, not lines. Even though it is closely related to the Green Stinkbug and other foul smelling bugs, the Striped Shieldbug rather smells like apples. The taste however apparently appals all birds. In the Mediterranean there is another black and red species called Graphosoma semipunctatum. It is very similar except that on the pronotum it has 10 black dots, rather than lines. The larvae of the Striped Shieldbug are brownish and less conspicuous. Still it is not difficult to identify them, for a broad light line runs from the nose backwards to the end of the scutellum. The Striped Shieldbug is between 8 and 12mm long.

The eggs are being laid in spring. Larvae can be seen from June to September. In July the first adults may appear. This means that during most of summer and the beginning of autumn the animals may be seen in all stages of life, often in small groups. When the weather is bad as well as during hibernation the adults seek shelter, usually in crevices of trees. Both the larvae and the adults are fond of plants in the Carrot Family (Apiaceae), like the Wild Carrot and Chervils. Even though most of their food is obtained by sucking on plants, the nymphs will occasionally suck on larvae of other insects. The Striped Shield Bug is in hibernation for a rather long period of time: the animals are rarely seen from October to May.

This is the tag for a miniature rhododendron I bought from Bodnant gardens years ago. The rhododendron really has remained tiny,. The tag has decayed elegantly and is completely indecipherable. Lots of different textures here.
