Pale pitcher plant bog with Grass-pink orchids, Geraldine Watson Preserve, Warren, Tyler County, June 2007

(Calopogon tuberosus). Tyler County Texas. Blooming amid pale pitcher plants (Sarracenia alata).

Just one of a dozen or so early bloomers in a field of hundreds if not thousands of plants. Jasper County, TX.

 

I liked how this one seemed to be holding the pine needles up between its petals.

The dried dehisced pod of a pitcher plant, Sarracenia alata.

Newton County TX, March 2015. This is a bog that has been through a lot but to date hosts the tallest measured pitcher plant in Texas (which is not, I should mention, the photographed plant).

There were many color variations of plants in the bog.

Most forms of Sarracenia alata are entirely green. This specimen, however, isn't.

Deep East Texas.

 

A high quality wetland pine savanna with Calopogon tuberosus, Aletris aurea, Sarracenia alata, and other plants typical of seepage areas.

A robust stand of pitchers.

In the foreground I have a giant Sarracenia alata and a couple of S.flava. Even in cultivation flava flowers literally smell like piss. There's no way to sugarcoat it.
