Santa Teresa Gallura is the northernmost town in Sardinia, strategically located facing the Strait of Bonifacio, with clear views of Corsica.
Founding and Location: Founded by Victor Emmanuel I of Savoy in the early 19th century upon a pre-existing settlement, it is now a popular tourist centre in the historical region of Gallura, famous for its granite landscapes.
Key Landmarks: The town is dominated by the Longosardo Tower (Torre di Longosardo), an imposing 16th-century Spanish watchtower that offers panoramic views. The heart of the village is Piazza Vittorio Emanuele I, which is lively and bustling.
Beaches and Coastline: Its town beach, Rena Bianca, is renowned for its white sand and turquoise waters, and is frequently awarded the Blue Flag. Nearby, there are spectacular sites like the Capo Testa peninsula, famous for its granite rock formations sculpted by the wind and sea.
Connections: From its tourist port, numerous sea excursions depart for the Maddalena Archipelago and Corsica. It is also close to important Nuragic archaeological sites like the Giants' Tomb of Lu Brandali.
