I have no idea who took this photo, likely one of my brothers (they are older). This photo (and the adjoining photo in my "Historic Photos" album) are the only remaining physical evidence of any of my childhood toys, sorry to say.
I'll mention that the voice cloud relates to a pending collision between the dark car (which is having trouble stopping) and the car on the through road (I guess we could call these "plank roads". How the dark car negotiated around the road grader I have no idea.
While at LaGrande Park, I took this shot of abandoned toys in the sandbox. The effect was done by my Android app, "Retro Camera."

The augmented reality sandbox is an extremely interactive and tactile way to teach basic concepts in geology and geography in a really interesting way. Any time you can introduce interactive technology into your subject matter, your ability to engage your audience immediately increases. This has been evident with the Augmented Reality Sandbox on the 2nd Floor of the Chattanooga Public Library, having received over 600 visitors in under 2 weeks of being in the public eye.
While there’s lots of potential for hard-line curriculum to be developed around the sandbox, the real and unforeseen potential exists in what the kids themselves come up with. It’s already been used as a device for digital story telling, with kids using the sandbox and its shifting landscape as a platform to develop their own short stories, entirely of their own accord.
The Chattanooga Public Library's sandbox was built by Jake Brown (pictured center) , a 17-year old college sophomore working at the library as a technology projects coordinator. Jake used open source technology designed by specialist Peter Gold of the UC Davis Department of Geology.
Let's take a break from all of that serious stuff for a day.
When was the last time you built something out of sand?

Designing a generative typeface using attractors, repellers and particles.
Two pairs of Sandbox Cords for my daughter, both in Stenzo baby-cord. The pockets are lined in Saffron Craig (I had appropriately coloured scraps), which would have to be the fanciest pocket linings ever - and only I know it's there. Size 2 bum, to cover her squishy cloth bum, a little bit longer than 12-18mth in the legs.

Build with Friends
With simulated physics and gravity, Patterns offers a new twist on 3D multi-player sandbox building games. Create your very own 3D universe, complete with powerful crafting tools, surprising shapes (triangles, anyone?), crazy creatures and even explorable planets.
Harvest and build with friends a variety of substances including ice that slides, fruit that bounces and materials that levitate. Whether you're building bridges to traverse chasms or towers that reach high into the sky, Patterns is your universe to shape.
Share your Creations
Invite friends and explore with the new multi-player option. Put your imagination and ingenuity to the test as you and your friends create simple or complex structures from elemental substances. Your formations may result in unexpected behaviors -- some creations will fall, while others may orbit. Share your creations and upload your planets to The Cosmos then download new worlds to explore or re-make as your own.

My dad made this sandbox for me. It was the best sandbox ever as it had a tilting roof that kept the sun off me while I played! My dad also made the little picnic table for me, too. (That's my cat Blacka looking a little miffed about something in the foreground.)
