Here's yet another shot from my New Zealand trip. This was on the morning following our first night in our camper van (....so not a good night sleep!) on our way north towards the 90 mile beach. It was also the first experience we got of the sand fly......the insect that can only be described as the mosquitos big brother that diets on steroids, beef and pasty British folk.

Jim hiking in the National Seashore.

In another Grand Beach photo I talked about all the amazing features that makes this beach famous and very popular. One was that the entire beach is bordered by a huge tall line of the deepest softest sand dunes you can even imagine playing in.

This is a photo of just a small section of the sand dunes behind the beach. The sand is so deep and soft. You could dig forever and its the same powdery soft sand. The same sand that makes up the beach and the sand that stretches far out into the lake.

Pärnu beach, Estonia.

The pure form of desert, devoid of any sign of vegetation, we were now into the sea of sands making high and low tides due to strong winds. This small patch of sand dunes has maintained its identity from the rest of the landscape and it goes as it is till the Indian part of the desert. As the sand dunes continuously change their shapes due to strong winds, the current stage has been set only for us and it is once in a lifetime. We knew that if we ever came back again here we might find the sand dunes there but their formation has been changed...

A look on some of the sand-dunes in the Namib-naukluft national park national park. The red-orange is sand of course while the yellow is grass. Grass may sound like it is a good think but in reality it is killing of the animal that are adapted to the desert and sibce it is still quite far from being any other ecosystem lever something with less life behind.

You can see more Namibian scenes in my Namibia set.

You could watch this Large On Black since that brings out more details. My pictures aren't balanced for a white background.

Größte Düne der arabischen Halbinsel (287 m hoch)

Lancelin, just north of Perth, attracts a range of enthusiasts - on both sea and land. Windsurfers and kite boarders love the strong consistent winds. Off road enthusiasts love the extensive sand dunes.
