Theme is Nautical/Sea related and the colors I'm using are Navy, Lt Pink, Dark Gold, Antique White, and BlueGray. I'm loving the format (one small square (or in my case "shape") a day)!!
this one had me choked up a little. Such a lovely tribute to the memory of four(!) infant children of Benjamin and Mary Knight
This water sampler is lowered into the ocean and then the sampling bottles around the outside are capped one at a time to collect water samples as the apparatus is pulled slowly upward through the water column.

This is a sampler that took me a year to piece. Most of the time I had to work on it while lying on my back because of a back problem I was having.
This is a sampler worked by Sophia Avers aged 10 in 1846. Sophia used to live in Benson in Oxfordshire. The text reads 'The rising morn cannot assure that we shall end the day, for death may stand without the door to call our souls away'. These words are also in Hymn 2:8 (Hosanna, with a cheerful sound) and versions of these are popular on epitaphs on gravestones.
This sampler is currently on display in the Middlemarch section of our History Gallery.

The Herbert has over 60 samplers in its collection. With volunteers from NADFAS we have recently completed a project to improve their storage and to make them more accessible. You can see some of the samplers on display at the Herbert in the History Gallery, Connected and in What's in Store.

We have driven past Palo Duro Canyon, south of Amarillo, TX, several times during our cross-country treks. This time we decided to stop. It was a sampler trip so we didn't do any hiking - plus it was already very hot and we hit it around noon, so the lighting wasn't the best. I've seen Palo Duro Canyon compared to the Grand Canyon. It's not at that level but it was still worth a stop. Next time we'll try to hit it in the evening.
I took these photos in early May 2017.

I purchased a sampler panel of French General La Petite Ecole. I cut each of the samplers out and then added some ric-rac, backed them with a light pink fabric, then strung them on some double-fold bais binding to make a bunting for my little girl. I think it looks lovley hanging above her closet and she loves having all of her letters displayed.

Seeing as I was making Loyal Union Sampler as a BOW I thought I would be really clever and make a matching quilt for our king single beds at the same time!! I am using a range of fabrics called Primrose Lane that I have been hoarding for about 10+ years!
A letter from Ulysses S. Grant to his wife Julia on August 4th, 1841 from the Presidential Papers microfilm scanning that's going on at LC. The Sampler is a Python/Django app that allows curators to randomly sample images as they come in, before shipments are approved. Seeing the images roll in makes me think how valuable it would be for the images to end up on the public web, where they could be referenced and transcribed (crowdsource like DocumentCloud?) ... instead of just being written to archival storage (tape) and sitting unused.
As of 11:03 AM September 1, 2011 it has allowed curators to view 1,109.896 images from a population of 12,137,015.
