As my coworker and I were headed to get something to eat, I spotted her waiting in line for her group to be called in order to board. She easily stood out from all the rest.
She mentioned she was heading to Miami to escape the cold (it was raining in Charlotte at the time). Her message to the world: 'Keep trying'.
I owe her one in helping me rediscover this encounter from October of 2018 as she messaged me on instagram some months later. I had totally thought I'd sent her the shots already! I think this tied in to my pseudo resolution of 'things to work on next', get organized. Thanks again Sabrina for bringing back moments in a day of not so long ago.

Those gossip mags tend to exaggerate stories. Somewhere between the two tales lies the truth.

Stranger Portrait:
Sabrina is a local Calgary artist and is always flamboyantly dressed whenever I see her. The last time I took her portrait was during last winter and she was wearing a brightly coloured coat covered in splashes of paint. This time she was wearing this very shiny, top hat that was adorned with sequins and two stuffed bird like creatures perched on the rim. I asked her if there was any significance to the design, but she informed me that it was just her happy hat that she loved to wear on sunny days and was made with the odds and ends she had left over from another project of hers.

Here another pick from yesterday's shoot with Sabrina. As I mentioned in my previous upload, I was using a co-workers 85mm f/1.4D lens for this shoot and shooting mostly at 1.4 (because why not!?) to get that super shallow depth of field.
This fence was surrounding part of the park we went to and I thought it might make a nice background and give Sabrina something to lean against. Did some slight editing in LR4 and CS6 since I did a poor job of exposure (this was the first of many shots here and I was shooting manual so had to tweak things).
I think Sabrina and I both liked the way this one turned out - nice look from her, nice soft and neutral colours - all good. Comments and critiques welcome.
First time actually entering or showing anything on public eye. But here's Sabrina android. If this makes trough first round of Biocup 2020 pref my nick name 56borderlands or Janotzek. Good luck to everyone and have creative future.
We were thrilled with the results of Sabrina's makeover, she looked beautiful in 2 different outfits carefully selected for her makeover, we agreed on doing an elegant evening out look and a saucy secretary look, both of which she executed so well!

Listening and Patience Make for Good Photography
I went up to the Eastern Sierras last weekend on a mission. Last year the best thing that I can say about my hunt for fall color is that I got to meet some very dear flickr folks in person. I believe I have an eye for composition but so far I just could not “see” the trees. One of the reasons was location. Last year I concentrated on the areas around Mammoth and Twin Lakes/Bridgeport. As it turned out the area that had the peak colors was Bishop Canyon. Another reason was that I was concentrating on capturing the “color” instead of creating an image.
This year was going to be different. It was going to be a suicide trip leaving SoCal at 12:00 AM Friday night to be in Bishop Canyon or Rock Creek before sunrise. I was staying in Mammoth but was going to shoot in Bishop Canyon and have dinner that the “Fall Color Goddess” Kahlee was organizing that night in Bishop. It was going to be a long day.
On Saturday I chose Rock Creek as the reports has said it was at its peak. After shooting in the morning I scouted out Bishop Canyon for the next day’s sunrise. It was a no brainer as Sabrina had great color and the sun had a clearer path into the lake than South Lake. I planned to shoot off the damn but at dinner a friend of Kahlee’s Inge www.flickr.com/photos/ifernau/ said she was going to shoot at Sabrina too and that there was a trail behind the Sabrina store. I owe a large gratitude to Inge for the tip. After dinner when I looked at my test shots from Saturday I realized I would be too far away to get a composition with any impact. So it was to be the trail that Inge had mentioned. Always listen more than speak – you learn more.
Sunday morningovertired I overslept and got up to Sabrina just after the Alpenglow had started. I met Inge who was already there. It was then I realized, while I love Alpenglow, the shot I wanted was going to be later in the morning. Later the morning sunlight would light up the entire slope all the way down to the shore line. So I waited with my Golden Retrieve Sugar for a little over an hour.
When the light hit the shoreline it was perfect and the water was still glass! Just a the perfect moment a fishing canoe motored out right to the middle of the picture. Hmm. I take a several shots but continued to wait for the boat to drift back behind one of the islands. That’s the story behind this image; listening and patience make for good photography!
One final note – this is the third trip in a row this summer to the Eastern Sierras with a total of one cloud in the sky. I cannot wait for the cloud jinx to lift!
Thanks for stopping by commnets very welcome!
