One of the military badges on the Newport Road "WW1 face" of the building, this one the South Wales Borderers. Three of the badges on this face have disappeared, amalgamated 1 March 2006 into the Royal Welsh Regiment: Royal Welsh Fusiliers, South Wales Borderers and the Welsh Regiment. The Welsh Regiment and SWB had already amalgamated in 1969 as the Royal Regiment of Wales. The South Wales Borderers are of course famous as the 24th Foot for the defence of Rorke's Drift in 1879, immortalised in the inaccurate film 'Zulu'. Up until 1881, the 24th Foot were actually the Warwickshire Regiment although the Regimental Depot had become based in Brecon.
The present building dates from 1883 with subsequent extensions. Originally named the Glamorgan & Monmouthshire Infirmary & Dispensary, it was renamed the Cardiff Royal Infirmary in 1895. From 1911-1923 it was known as the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital. It appears to have been enlarged considerably during WW1. The hospital, which is Grade II listed, underwent a thirty million pound refurbishment, finished in 2014.
Im September 1978 fand auf dem Betriebshof Friesdorf ein Tag der offenen Tür statt. Der Betriebshof Friesdorf wurde 1892 als Teil der Straßenbahn Bonn-Bad Godesberg-Mehlem in Betrieb genommen. Er liegt zwischen den Haltestellen Max-Löbner-Straße und Hochkreuz. Bis zur Eröffnung des Betriebshofs in Dransdorf waren hier Schienenfahrzeuge stationier – heute die gesamte Busflotte der SWB Bus und Bahn. Die Zufahrt aus Richtung Godesberger Allee wurde mittlerweile zugebaut.
