Arriva London/The Shires (SW6, LK16 BYG, Garston/St Albans Road (GR)-based) at Harrow Bus Station, College Road, Harrow-on-the-Hill, London. Body no AN196, delivered new 16/07/2016 via Heysham Docks. Apologies for the mark on the left hand side of the photo, caused by a clump of sensor dust that got into one of the filters in my camera lens.

Nostalgia from my Melbourne years (1978-1996), inbound No. 944 snapped turning from Miller St. into St. Georges Rd. in Preston near the Preston Workshops where it would eventually finish up being stored once withdrawn from service, where, as at October 2010, it was part of the ready reserve fleet.
SW6.944: In service 1949. Worked from Hawthorn, Glen Huntly and Preston depots, and apparently now currently stored at Newport Workshops along with many other trams of the W class fleet.

Why are most of the W class trams now stored?
In 1990, the National Trust classified all remaining W class trams, thereby making them Heritage items. A combination of the Trust, unions and the State Government put an end to W class trams being removed from Victoria. This means that the trams listed as being stored at Newport Workshops are sitting in a bloody big warehouse gathering dust and slowly rotting away instead of either being sold or donated to individuals and/or groups that would take care of them and restore them to their former greatness.
Another set of trams is listed as being part of the Ready Reserve fleet stored at Preston Workshops. These 50 trams were supposed to be kept for emergency services such as extras for sporting events etc. but 43 of them have been stored in the old Plate Shop at the back of Preston Workshops, all bar five are not on rails. SW6 936 is stored in the workshops yard as it would not fit in the Plate Shop. Another 7 have been stored at various suburban depots.
Fulham Palace, Bishops Park. Fulham Palace was the country home of the Bishops of London from the 11th century until 1975.
There are reports of a pub by this name on this site as early as 1455 & in the 16th century Shakespeare was a visitor.
The original building was demolished & the new Golden Lion built in the 1830s.
In the 1970s the pub had a reputation as a rock pub & was a haunt for Led Zeppelin in their early days & also Emerson, Lake & Palmers Manticore Studios were close by in a old cinema & they & associated acts used the pub.

Scanned from Trolley Wire, August/September 2009, 1946 Melbourne tram No. 916 snapped by Ian Green on 7 August 2009 at Lou Arthur's transport depot in Footscray on the first stage of its journey to San Francisco where it arrived on 16/9/2009 and is now used in regular service on the F Market & Wharves line.
Tram No. 916, of the SW6 subclass, entered service in Melbourne on June 21, 1946. The most visible advance over the earlier W class designs (such as Muni’s W2 tram No. 496) was the installation of sliding doors in the center section, keeping the car far warmer in winter (Melbourne’s climate is similar to San Francisco’s).

the first floor windows of this house ‘wink’ as you pass by. I can’t find any info about it online, but the ‘eyes’ look like they are printed on lenticular screens. Unfortunately there’s a big tree in front of the house that blocks a full frontal shot!
SW6.862 in Christmas colours shunts at Flinders St West where it was snapped by Ian Green on Tuesday, 15th November, 2005.
The Balaclava Road/Hawthorn Road intersection was a fascinating place to spend time, as the tram tracks incorporated a perfectly symmetrical grand union. Route 3 ran through east-west, route 64 ran north-south, route 65 used the east-to-south curves and 69 the east-to-north while the occasional out-of-service car would use the other curves. The 65, which was peak hours only, has since been withdrawn and the 69 has been renumbered 16.
More point iron action with a crew happy to have their picture taken while prospective passengers wait for the doors to open.
