Seefin at 622m has a commanding vista of the surrounding countryside. This view shows part of the burial mound looking towards Sorrel Hill and Blessington Lakes. When this tomb was built the view would be practically the same as it is today so its understandable why they chose it as a last resting place.
I did enter the tomb down the narrow passageway and found the carvings on the walls which I will show later.
This mountain is very accessible and only takes about an hour round trip from the road. Id recommend it to anyone visiting the area. Our neighbours go on about Stonehenge but its practically new at 3000 year old. This is over 5000 years old and not held together with concrete! I kid you not!!!
All in good fun for my English friends!
I do hope you enjoy and I really am amazed at your wonderful interest and comments! I love this photo as the colours are very good. I always use a Hoya n/d filter for landscapes which improves sky and vegetation colour and set my camera to Vivid or equivalent setting. Just doing these two simple things make a big difference. If I had have known these 2 tips from the start, it would have made a vast difference to my photos! Try it and tell me what you think?
Thank you!
Pat.

What remains of the surrounding walls of Maxstoke Priory, an early 14th Century Augustinian monastery in a small village in North Warwickshire. Sadly, the buildings are steadily decaying, but Historic England is partly funding repairs to the boundary walls. This place has a rich and colourful history, full of drama and mystery. Taken while out with a dear friend ... I hope you like my rendition, edited in Topaz Studio with a texture of my own.

In 1842, the small Episcopalian community of Longueuil and of the surrounding area, built on land donated by the baron Charles William Grant, a small stone church in the neogothic style. Its small belfry was replaced three times. The stone portico and the pillars were built after the construction. In 1876, a small school for the English speaking children was built east of the church. It was torn down in 1935.
On the west side of the church lot, a red brick house was built in 1893 for the pastor and his family. The building is characteristic of the Victorian epoch, as shown by the triangular architectural ornaments of the dormer windows and of the roofs which are covered up by moldings and boards artistically cut.
This last building more than 100 years old was acquired by the city of Longueuil in 1990. Today it is known as the “Old Rectory - Vieux Presbytere “ it serves as a show center.
In 1996, after an understanding between the City of Longueuil, the factory of St. Mark and the business people of Longueuil, the garden is serving as a public park with a central music kiosk.

This once a bustling 19th-century iron smelting industrial town surrounding Snail Shell Harbor was seen from the top of the limestone cliff which featured in my last post, taken about an hour before sunset.
The dock features 15 transient slips which provide overnight or day-use boating opportunities, it's like a RV park for the boats.
**********
"In the mid-1800s, iron ore was shipped from the Upper Peninsula mines to the foundries in the lower Great Lakes at an enormous cost. This high cost of shipping was caused by inefficient transportation combined with the nearly 40 percent waste the ore contained. The solution was to build a blast furnace close to the mine where the ore could be smelted into pig iron before it was shipped to the steel-making centers. The town had to be relatively close to the Escanaba ore docks, have a natural harbor, and be near the limestone and hardwood forests that were needed to smelt the iron ore.
Named after Fayette Brown, the Jackson Iron Company agent who chose the site, Fayette was once one of the Upper Peninsula's most productive iron-smelting operations. Located on the Garden Peninsula at Snail Shell Harbor, Fayette grew up around two blast furnaces, a large dock and several charcoal kilns after the Civil War. Nearly five hundred residents, many immigrating from Canada, the British Isles and northern Europe, lived in and near the town that existed to make pig iron.
During twenty-four years of operation, 1867 to l891, Fayette's blast furnaces produced a total of 229,288 tons of iron, using local hardwood forests for fuel and quarrying limestone from the bluffs to purify the iron ore. When the charcoal iron market began to decline, the Jackson Iron Company closed its Fayette smelting operation."

Sunset in Uglich June 10, 2019
One of the main attractions of Uglich is the embankment of the Volga River, which offers an unforgettable view of the surrounding areas and the Volga.
The surrounding city walls acted as a tripod, when capturing this long exposure shot of the distant night view from the hill town of Todi, Umbria. It has been described in the Italian press as the world's most liveable city.
Ratcliffe-on-Soar Power Station dominates most viewpoints of Old Sawley (Long Eaton) and its surrounding landscapes.
After the heavy rains of mid-February two swans settled on the flooded farmland. I was attracted to the juxtaposition of nature and the industrial dominance of the cooling towers and the chimney (if you look closely to the base of the cooling towers and behind the foliage, you can see two trains passing in opposite directions) – also, the way that the natural light has split the composition in two horizontally with the sunlight bathing the (ugly[?]) manmade construction in warm light, and the cold muted hues of the shade depriving the beauty of nature (the swans) of their moment. It somehow feels like a betrayal.

The car parks surrounding Llyn Padarn have had new height barriers installed. Sadly I agree that this had to be done after the selfishness of people over the last few years. I can still squeeze under but the Relay, Boxer, Sprinter, Crafter sized vans, motorhomes and any hi top van can't. All the car parks were spotless and empty. I could've stayed but the signs are clear that there is no overnighting of any kind. As usual my back up plan was an industrial estate which is only a ten minute drive away.
Managed to get here a little before 4am, made a brew and then down to the lakeside. There was a lady just packing up when I arrived. She had travelled up from Norfolk and had been here since 1am for a night of astro and to take time lapses of the MW rising.
Nothing so adventurous for me. Astro is something I know very little about and I've been watching a lot of tutorials with a view to attempting to try my hand at it. After four or five test shots I was happy with my settings. I managed only three more images before the mist rolled in from the Pass of Llanberis and within a few minutes I might as well have been shooting a white wall!
So this is the best of those three images. Looking forward to having a proper go at it over the next few months and remembering to turn my head torch off!

One of the four minarets surrounding the Taj Mahal, seen in the photo in front of the red sandstone Mosque to the west of the tomb. On the other side of the Taj Mahal is the Jawab, a building that is a false mosque erected to correspond to or balance the true mosque on the western side. The Jawab is thought to have been used as a guest house.
Ostgals (“Port end”) district west of Old Town is a collection of low rise homes. Some of them are especially old (as are the narrow cobbled streets). Once the district was inhabitted by dock workers, but today it is also liked by the local elite.
A quiet part of Ventspils, which began to form after the invitation expressed by the Russian government in 1836 and the announced advantages for the surrounding farmers to settle down in the dune belt, in order to prevent the city from becoming dusty with sand. Also it has been a village for fishermen. Nowadays, it is a unique, romantic environment with cobbled quiet streets, attractive 19th century. wooden construction and essential pelargoniums in the windows. Ostgal has been recognized as a monument of urban construction of national importance. In 2009, after a large-scale reconstruction, the city's Theater House "Jūras vārti" provides a buzz in Ostgal. Throughout the year there will be concerts, exhibitions, theater performances, celebrations and balls.

I remember our conversation with Daniel, do you remember it, Daniel?
We were speaking about the estimated price of a home like this in that dreamy scenery. We couldn´t precise the amount of money invested to acquire a house like that, as it depends on its dimensions. We enjoyed a lot that conversation while we were admiring the marvelous colors of Autumn in complete serenity and pleasure.

It's been over a year since frost first appeared.
This is one of the pictures I took on the first day I used my new camera. At dawn, I went to a lake to see sunrise. Steam was coming off of the surface of the lake. Frost formed across the field surrounding the lake. Then I went to a nature park for hiking. The frost didn't melt for a while. In this picture, you see yellow foliage, a metal fence, and a frosty lawn in the background. My fingers and feet were numb with cold. I couldn't help going ahead because the frosty sight was beautiful under sunshine.
P.S., This picture was taken on the second weekend of October instead of November. I had my camera mistakenly set the date for a month during the first few weeks of use.
The Elora Mill Gardens....
This is a shot of the gardens surrounding the mill in Elora Ontario. the restoration and conversion of the Old Mill on the Grand River is now mostly complete. The old mill turned into a restaurant and inn; the surrounding property and gardens lovingly renewed with flower gardens. such a vast improvement from the neglect of the last thirty years.

Ynys Giftan Island
Ynys Giftan Island is situated in the Dwyrd
Estuary in a rural location overlooking the
picturesque town of Portmeirion and provides
panoramic views of stunning coastline,
mountains and the Irish Sea. The Island is
approximately 3 miles from the popular town
of Harlech and 10 miles from the town of
Porthmadog. It is accessible by boat at high tide
and at low tide by foot, tractor or other suitable
vehicle for traveling across the Estuary.
One of only 43 of Britain’s unbridged tidal
islands, Ynys Giftan is in the wide Afon
Dwyryd estuary near the village of Talsarnau
in Gwynedd, North Wales. The Island has been
unoccupied for many years and has a unique
history. It is said to have been gifted to the
current Lord Harlech’s ancestors by Queen Anne
in the early 1700s, hence it became known as
Ynys Giftan (‘Anne’s Gift Island’).
Surrounding the Royal Palace of Laeken is a domain of about 190 hectares (460 acres), comprising the Royal Greenhouses and several pavilions. It was landscaped in English style, so it includes some lakes as well.
The gardens were exceptionally open to the public and we were lucky enough to have chosen a day with gorgeous weather!

While I was risking life and limb slipping and sliding down a dirt bank to get a shot at Oxbow Bend, the Mrs. pointed her camera out the car window and captured this shot at Grand Tetons National Park. ..... Life is Good ;-)
Grand Teton National Park is a United States National Park in northwestern Wyoming. At approximately 310,000 acres (480 sq. mi; 130,000 ha; 1,300 km2), the park includes the major peaks of the 40-mile-long (64 km) Teton Range as well as most of the northern sections of the valley known as Jackson Hole. It is only 10 miles (16 km) south of Yellowstone National Park, to which it is connected by the National Park Service-managed John D. Rockefeller, Jr. Memorial Parkway. Along with surrounding National Forests, these three protected areas constitute the almost 18,000,000-acre (7,300,000 ha) Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, one of the largest intact mid-latitude temperate ecosystems in the world.
Human history of the Grand Teton region dates back at least 11,000 years, when the first nomadic hunter-gatherer Paleo-Indians began migrating into the region during warmer months pursuing food and supplies. In the early 19th century, the first White explorers encountered the eastern Shoshone natives. Between 1810 and 1840, the region attracted fur trading companies that vied for control of the lucrative beaver pelt trade. U.S. Government expeditions to the region commenced in the mid-19th century as an offshoot of exploration in Yellowstone, with the first permanent white settlers in Jackson Hole arriving in the 1880s.
Efforts to preserve the region as a national park commenced in the late 19th century, and in 1929 Grand Teton National Park was established, protecting the major peaks of the Teton Range. The valley of Jackson Hole remained in private ownership until the 1930s, when conservationists led by John D. Rockefeller, Jr. began purchasing land in Jackson Hole to be added to the existing national park. Against public opinion and with repeated Congressional efforts to repeal the measures, much of Jackson Hole was set aside for protection as Jackson Hole National Monument in 1943. The monument was abolished in 1950 and most of the monument land was added to Grand Teton National Park.
Grand Teton National Park is named for Grand Teton, the tallest mountain in the Teton Range. The naming of the mountains is attributed to early 19th-century French-speaking trappers—les trois tétons (the three teats) was later anglicized and shortened to Tetons. At 13,775 feet (4,199 m), Grand Teton abruptly rises more than 7,000 feet (2,100 m) above Jackson Hole, almost 850 feet (260 m) higher than Mount Owen, the second-highest summit in the range. The park has numerous lakes, including 15-mile-long (24 km) Jackson Lake as well as streams of varying length and the upper main stem of the Snake River. Though in a state of recession, a dozen small glaciers persist at the higher elevations near the highest peaks in the range. Some of the rocks in the park are the oldest found in any U.S. National Park and have been dated at nearly 2.7 billion years.
Majestic and elegant mountains of coral that tower monumentally over the surrounding landscape and yet blush like young lovers at sunset... these are the Pale di San Martino.
Their geologic history starts 300 million years ago: in a calm and shallow sea, huge coral colonies developed to create enormous reefs over a thousand metres high. After surfacing out of the water, these coral reefs were weathered by the elements and shaped into the pointed and sharp structures that mark the landscape today. The name dolomia – engl. Dolomite rock (to be precise, the Pale di San Martino are made of “Dolomia dello Sciliar”) is a homage to Marquis Déodat De Dolomieu, who in 1788, while travelling through our mountains, discovered their chemical composition (the Dolomite rock is a combined calcium and magnesium carbonate). Yet what has always captivated visitors - from 19th century travellers to modern-day tourists - is most of all the Altipiano delle Pale: a stone plateau set at 2700 metres altitude, a lunar and mysterious landscape, fifty square kilometres of bare rock to be discovered.

This photo reminds me of a quote from the novel Alice in Wonderland written by Lewis Carroll:
“Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?”
“That depends a good deal on where you want to get to,” said the Cat.
“I don’t much care where—” said Alice.
“Then it doesn’t matter which way you go,” said the Cat.
“—so long as I get somewhere,” Alice added as an explanation.
“Oh, you’re sure to do that,” said the Cat, “if you only walk long enough.” —Chapter 6, Pig and Pepper

This pretty female pigeon horntail is another amazing "stingless" wasp. She sure does look intimidating though since she's about two inches long and has what appears to be a large dagger sticking out the end of her abdomen. She actually uses that dagger, or ovipositor, to drill a hole into dying or dead hardwood trees and then deposit an egg in the hole. She adds a wood-rotting fungus with the egg so her larva can eat the surrounding rotting wood plus the growing fungus when it hatches. The pigeon horntail larva can live inside the dead tree for up to three years before pupating and emerging now in late summer as a new adult. Adults like this one only consume flower nectar or tree sap. These primitive wasps do no damage to healthy trees and are an important cog in the forest's ecology.
One of my favorite birds - love the colors on this bird. The plum head is rich in color and love to photograph them in action. The birds are social creatures and found around the forests in our state.
On this day, we were exploring a new place, but unfortunately could not find the specific spot we were looking for. Instead came upon a narrow road where there was a flock 20-30 plum-headed parakeets late in the evening. They were enjoying the fruiting trees in the surrounding areas.
Thanks in advance for your views, faves and feedback if any.
Take some time off from the hustle and bustle of the city and visit Muela del Diablo, a distinct rock formation formed by an extinct volcano plug. Translated as the ‘Devil’s Molar’ in English, the formation was named due to its peculiar shape when viewed from certain vantage points. You can walk to the attraction in no more than half a day, regardless of your trekking experience. Enjoy the rewards of your efforts with awe-inspiring views of La Paz and the surrounding valleys. A visit to Muela del Diablo represents just the start of the adventure when you use our La Paz sightseeing website to plot your vacation.
Robata (炉端) or Iroribata (囲炉裏端) is a space surrounding a fireplace in Chanoma. It is the place for family members and close friends to gather for heat and/or chatting. The fireplace is also used to boil water for tea and cook foods to supplement the function of kitchen.
