Not sure that these Caryatids are the originals - but I do love them!
We land back at Luton airport this afternoon an drove home, totally shattered. Hope to catch up with you all tomorrow sometime!
Wasn’t sure about posting this one at first. Guess it doesn’t really qualify as a ‘candid’ portrait, but I did try to capture him in my favourite ‘observer mode’ portrait style :). Anyhow, I played around with it a bit and ended up with this. Yoda in monochromatic tones! Dedicated to all the Star Wars fans out there!
Not sure how it is Friday night again already but here we are....I don't know about you but this time of year I really start to look forward to Autumn as it's my favourite season.
Even though it's still officially summer we are getting the occasional hints of Autumn, I took this on a foggy morning earlier this week. Most of my photography at the moment is on my phone, and needless to say I've played with this extensively in Snapseed :)
Wishing you all a happy and safe weekend :)
CN Train Q116, with the BC Rail Huuuritage unit in charge, rolls past "Millionaires Row" at Wabamun Lake Alberta. I've been told the cabin owners had permission years ago to build on the lake side of the tracks, and to this day CN has made no attempt to prevent them from accessing the lake. This could change in the future, as CN is busy adding a second track to most of the Edson Sub, with work well underway east and west of this row of "cabins".
I'm sure the lawyers will get richer from the double tracking of this section of line, since most of the cabins are passed down through generations of owners rather then listed on the open market. Last i checked property on smaller lakes in Alberta was just shy of a million bucks, so CN may need to get the big cheque book out to get what they want!
I sure felt like a trail camera here. These three deer came so close on this evening. I was perfectly still and downwind..and we all know how quiet our camera actions can be. It did make me wonder if folks had been feeding them in this preserve, or if I was truly a curiosity. Whatever the cause, it was a cool moment.
...be sure to wear some flowers in your hair.
Nope, we don't go to San Francisco (although I really would love to:-), but I always wanted to post a shot with THIS title. I always loved that song and in fact it's the reason why I have chosen that name for my dog:-)
YAY for flower power...!!!

Not sure that its so "common" any more, since I've never seen this bird before in Southern India.
Aymanam, Kottayam, Kerala, India
Two more views of this Common Iora are here:
It's hard to say I'm sorry
It's hard to make the things I did undone
A lesson I've learned too well for sure
So dont Hang up the phone now I'm trying to figure out just what to do
I'm going crazy without you
You're all I ever wanted
Not sure how many tunnel motors one needs for "Tunnel Motor Tuesday", but the power desk apparently says we will take six! And as such, six of the T-motors have a northbound freight well in hand and rolling toward their destination without any apparent trouble. If I recall correctly, I think we only got two shots chasing this guy.
That's how it went on the D&RGW back in those days, fast and efficient freight service kept the money rolling in. One can read about how the prior older school era of a few drag freights put the Grande into bankruptcy, and then the switch to fast, short, and frequent put them back into the money. Of course we all know what era things have gone back to, as history repeats itself.
....why I am fasinated with thes sport field lights. They are all silver, really they are. It is the setting sun that is turning some gold. Gotta luv it.
... but I really like this shot. It's just a shroom. Rather large mushroom that seems to grow yr, after yr. on the same time at this time of the yr. It is very unique. One small part of this mushroom.
Have a super day and stay safe. Check in later. 🍄

I’m sure I’ve told you before that I get very embarrassed about taking photos int he front garden. However, having taken the dog for a walk this morning I just couldn’t resist, besides Sunday mornings, there’s not too many people up and about.
I had realised last year that I’m a bit shy on the old photography front so had bought more bulbs and planted them in the seclusion of our back garden. They’re coming up, but slightly behind the ones in the front.
Thanks for stopping
Not sure what this verdin was doing to this mesquite tree, but I thought he looked like a rather well-kempt bird.
(update: I just read that verdins do actually eat plant matter in small amounts, including mesquite. Learn something every day 😀)
Not sure why its Yellow-Eyed, should have been called Orange-Eyed babbler.
Many thanks in advance for your views / feedback. Much appreciated.
It's a time for everything.
It's always a time for afterthought, I sure have done that this year.
It's a wonder that I still have one or two brain cells left, lol.
Brain cells aren't used only for work.
Difficult tasks within can blow your mind away.
Why is that?
When you are at work you use your brain in a relatively calm, rational way, it's mostly based on knowledge.
When you are dealing with your inner being you will touch your feelings as soon as you open the door only a tiny bit.
And that hurts.
We normally don't like to be hurt.
Therefore we leave things to be instead of dealing with them, even though you know that you do things in a way you know isn't proper for you or others.
And then you are stuck.
It only gets worse, it never gets fixed without your attention.
Somehow the problem keeps growing and will become like a domino, leaving you with even more tasks to deal with, but the same problem is there like a basis, a foundation, it just transforms into different shapes.
"The story of my life..", you can think, "Why am I always so unlucky?"
Giving it attention is the same as giving the problem light.
Darkness is never a solution.
Light is.
Attention can be done in many ways. When you first are aware of that something is wrong, then you have taken the first step.
We all deal with our stuff in different ways.
The most important is that you actually deal with it.
Some don't need dwelling, back an forth, some know exactly what to do and proceed.
Some needs breaks in thinking, to let it all mature and when the time is right, they do what they need to do.
I'm a slow one, taking into consideration all and everything.
But when I know I'm right, I act like a tsunami. 2018 has been filled with emotional tsunamis, followed by action and intuition.
Tsunami after tsunami.
My tsunamis are like fire in the forest, my foundation gets cleansed, purified and leaving me with a new respect and love for myself and leaving me ready for new adventures.
The unknown is always a nice pillow, we can make many excuses to just be left stuck.
We often don't see that we are doing just that.
Time for heavy food has been and is definitely over for me, for a long time.
Heavy food can make me sleepy and slow in my body and mind.
I can feel the urge of going for a hike instead of eating the dessert.
But I'm not rude, so of course I don't do that, lol.
The company I have had this Christmas was just as perfect as it should be.
Everyone was thankful for the nice time we could have together, everyone in a good mood.
One special person was missing, but this year has indeed been an adventurous year and we all needed to end the year in this way.
I'm thankful for what has been.
I'm thankful for what is.
I'm thankful for what is to come.
Dear diary, thanks for listening to me this year 😁 I will continue in 2019, I promise, lol.
My journey isn't over yet.
And remember, when I'm in 97 I will be jumping in parachute from a plane 😅
Not sure that this photo isn't even softer than the earlier one, but I just loved how I caught them.

I am not sure this image can be called a "photograph", but it is a part of my soul probably.
appreciate so much your visits, comments and support, all.
have a nice day.
Pretty sure its not an airplane, but I really don't know what this is. The tail looks like a comet, but the red has me confused. All the captures of Comet C/2021 Leonard have green in them not red. I did have an astro filter on the camera. Pointed in the SW sky @ 6:37 PM Pacific time.
Sure, I'll take one! I absolutely fell in love with the mountains that reside in the Dominican Republic. This image shows part of the Anamuya mountain range traveling around 80kph. With such a beautiful name, I decided to go with a little a lime in color, as I thought that it should be a wonderful frozen drink back at the resort. From my "Shoot like a tourist" series. Pentax.
I was so sure this was Johnny Depp.......... but beer goggles can have that effect.....
Today WAH are visiting Kinnearing
Spock and his friend Merlin, beautiful whippets, now live next door to us. I fear that my portrait shows Spock a little severe, whereas in reality he is so gentle.
I guess he may have been startled to find himself the object of my attention with my camera.
One of his humans did express a liking for the photo.....I'm really not sure and present it here and no doubt you will tell me what you think....
for: Thursday monochrome (Donnerstagsmonochrom)
many thanks for all visits, faves ,especially, comments
I am pretty sure ID on this one is correct, at least if one lives in the UK. Here in N. America it may have a different name.
Resting upon a clover bloom gives a sense of the small size of this little butterfly.
I was lucky that it stayed put for about a minute, so that I was able to take a few shots getting closer and closer. Not using a tripod was tough to get a sharp image, and out of the images I took this was the best. For shots in the field I am still on the fence as to whether a tripod is useful or not. With so many butterflies being fleeting and not staying in one place very long, rarely do you have time to set up a tripod, and changing angles or viewpoint is cumbersome, usually moving other bordering plants and scaring them off.
Although my macro lens has no stabilization like the L lens, to be honest I can't see IS being all that useful in a situation like this as it may steady a person side to side or up and down, but does nothing for even a millimeter of movement back and forth which will change the point of focus.

Sending tons of love to everyone … I’ve been spending lots of quiet time in real life and SL, just losing myself in the creative process of crafting things that bring peace, trying to heal and strengthen my faith. I hope everyone is having a beautiful week, and that you are all blessed with joy filled moments, and pretty things in your camera lens. 💕
Oh my gosh, little rascal Bun Bun and I were out playing in the hydrangeas today (just look at him hiding behind me!) when we discovered a couple of rabbits. One was white and fluffy and chubby and was taking a nap, and the other one had a beautiful violet purple tinged coat.
We were almost certain he was the Easter Bunny, so we made sure nobody else had seen him, and then tried to keep him hidden in these shrubs ... he blended right in, so I think we're safe! But we were so excited to have encountered him! And what a cutie pie he was too! Real life little girl me would have lived for a moment like this! haha
Happy Easter everyone, I hope your weekend is filled with happy! 💕
Not sure at present of the exact ID. This family in California can be difficult to ID. I used to think the type of buckwheat it was perched on was a 100% lock but that theory has been debunked. Sierra County, CA.
Not sure what you'll make of this shot, taken in my early days of digital photography.. I had an idea, the setting sun lighting up the path through the Wainstones rocks... quality not brilliant, shooting into the sun made it appear darker that it was.. hey ho, I tried ;-).
You're beautiful, that's for sure
You'll never ever fade
You're lovely, but it's not for sure
That I won't ever change
And though my love is rare
Though my love is true
[Chorus]
I'm like a bird, I'll only fly away
I don't know where my soul is (soul is)
I don't know where my home is
And baby, all I need for you to know is
I'm like a bird, I'll only fly away
I don't know where my soul is (soul is)
I don't know where my home is
All I need for you to know is
Your faith in me brings me to tears (oh)
Even after all these years
And it pains me so much to tell
That you don't know me that well
And though my love is rare
Though my love is true
I'm like a bird, I'll only fly away
I don't know where my soul is (soul is)
I don't know where my home is
And baby, all I need for you to know is
I'm like a bird, I'll only fly away
I don't know where my soul is (soul is)
I don't know where my home is
And baby, all I need for you to know is
It's not that I wanna say goodbye
It's just that every time you try
To tell me that you love me (oh, oh)
Each and every single day
I know I'm gonna have to eventually
Give you away
And though my love is rare
And though my love is true, yeah
Hey, I'm just scared
That we may fall through
Yeah, yeah-yeah, yeah, yeah
I'm like a bird (I'm like a bird)
I don't know where my soul is (soul is)
I don't know where my home is
And baby, all I need for you to know is
I'm like a bird, I'll only fly away
I don't know where my soul is (soul is)
I don't know where my home is
And baby, all I need for you to know is
I'm like a bird, I'll only fly away
(I don't know where my soul is)
I don't know where my soul is (soul is)
(I don't know where my home is, oh)
I don't know where my home is
And baby, all I need for you to know is
I'm like a bird, I'll only fly away
(I don't know where my soul is)
(I don't know where my home is)
I don't know where my soul is (soul is)
I don't know where my home is
And baby, all I need for you to know is
I'm like a bird, I'll only fly away
I don't know where my soul is (soul is)
I don't know where my home is
And baby, all I need for you to know is
I'm like a bird, I'll only fly away
I don't know where my soul is (soul is)
I don't know where my home is

Not sure if this is okay, trying to be creative !, these are seedheads from an, to me, unknown plant.
I put them as close as possible together but some empty spaces remain.
This is 5,5 cm.
Happy Macro Monday.

I wasn’t sure where Lee was by now. After the reflections across the lagoon on our arrival, we’d wandered off in separate directions, occasionally bumping into each other as we searched in vain for dunes from which we might portray a scene untainted by footprints on the black sand, sometimes lining up our cameras on neighbouring tufts and chatting about how we were getting on so far. After that, we’d each been down to the sea at different times to shoot the waves arriving in front of the Vestrahorn range, and then I’d seen him in the distance, too far away to call out to, heading somewhere where I suppose he’d spotted something interesting. It had been a day of learning about the place into which we’d invested so much idle time as we planned our visit. There was no doubt that in a country filled with magnificent highlights, Vestrahorn was on the A list. And it hadn’t disappointed. We were in full agreement that we’d be back again tomorrow for our last evening in the southeastern corner of Iceland.
After my spell at the side of the ocean, where I’d been awarded with a welly full of seawater for my efforts by one particularly vigorous wave, I returned to the top of another gold fringed dune, this time looking out towards the deep blue void, photographing figures at the shoreline and thinking to myself what a fine place this was. The sort of place where you have to keep pinching yourself to check whether you’re or not about to wake up and discover the whole thing was a dream. By now I’d found a number of different compositions, each of them featuring either all or part of the famous backdrop. In some places I had to wait patiently as other togs took their shots, but that was fine. In fact there was plenty of time and space to do your thing alone here - as long as you gave yourself that time. So many dunes to stand upon and revel in the moment. And now, as the golden hour gave way and the yellows began to turn to blues and purples, I found myself looking at the western reaches of Vestrahorn, backed by repeating slopes that receded into what was left of the brighter colours towards the horizon. In the far distance, tongues of glaciers shimmered under a brilliant haze as they made their way down to icy lagoons at the feet of sun kissed mountains, whilst right in front of me, pile upon pile of gold topped dunes rolled away in waves. All of the footprints that had been so difficult to ignore earlier faded away into the dark shadows of the land, while everything above them glowed. Again, I pinched myself - just to be sure.
By now, most of the visitors had left, no doubt heading for dinner in Höfn, while just a few photographers remained at large in this dreamlike playground. Every so often another set of car lights would head over the causeway between the lagoons as the light fell. But still there were shots to be taken. I suspected Lee might be back at the car, waiting patiently while I tried and failed to drag myself away from the charms of Stokksnes and Vestrahorn. But it wasn’t easy. It’s often difficult enough to know when to leave at the end of outings that are just down the road from home, but when I’m somewhere as special as this; somewhere I know I’m going to see just a very small number of times in my life if I’m very lucky, it becomes a far more difficult thing to put the camera back into the bag and trudge towards the car. And while we’ve all seen pictures of this place in the most extraordinary conditions, under blankets of pure white snow or before fiery red sunrises, I had no complaints about what Mother Nature had served us with today. Without question, it had been a good one. I even got a bonus traffic trail thrown in for free at the end of the evening.
Finally, it was time to go. Lee was sitting in the car, poring over the images on the back of his camera, no doubt thinking about supper. We’d be back tomorrow to see if we’d missed anything, and even if we hadn’t, it really didn’t matter when if all else failed you could just sit and stare at the scenery here.
Not sure why it took me so long to get a pace shot along this stretch of highway, but better late than never right? Here a pair of IC 40s sandwich 2 other CN units on this empty southbound. Creds to Jacob for driving as we got our shots.
