A strange, but somehow fascinating, sculpture, near the Invercauld Arms Hotel in Braemar in the Scottish Highlands. This Cocktail Shaker Ice Cream thing is over 10 feet high and shines in the winter sun on what is actually a cold day.
The awful weather we have had recently reminded me of this shot which I took earlier this year. The sky and the light was really strange causing this brickwork to turn this wonderful glowing red colour... I didn't process this other than an unsharp mask, it really was just like this! There was some serious rain not long after I took this photo!
It is challenging to shoot a big place. It is a small picture, so it doesn't look enormous. In reality this hill is huge and trees even more. I was standing underneath it looking up, and all I got was strange angles of broken perspective. Some places are only to be seen by your own eyes I guess.
Smile on Saturday: Eggs-pressive
As strange as an egg-laying rabbit we have a green koala, pink panther and blue elephant :)
Happy Easter🐣💛
We came across this strange creature on our long walk today.
There is a sign inviting you to add to his length and people have put more stones behind him but they have not been painted.

Shot a couple of nights ago with Neil here posing in the dark, we found this tree with dozens of plastic bottles hanging from the branches. I can't even begin to guess why the bottles are hanging off a tree in the middle of nowhere in Sherwood Forest unless it's some creepy cult thing. Or maybe something perfectly innocent, either way, answers on a postcard please!!

What a strange and beautiful thing I thought. We had just experienced snow in the mountains as we drove and then just as suddenly as it came on the sun came out. The heat of the pavement made an incredible steamy mist rise up. I had to jump down and get as close as possible! 😄 this was a completely empty stretch of road as well so I was able to do this safely. It’s taken me awhile to post it - I’m not sure why... I get into a frame of mind where I am reluctant to share my work. I think I am an overwhelmed perfectionist. If I can’t get it to look a certain way I give up on posting. Trying to do better this year and just post what I love and leave it at that. Every time I get on Flickr I am blown away by my dear friends here who post such high quality work. You all inspire me often without even knowing it.
Much love to you all!💕
We had a day last week that started out as a nice, sunny day. Then a huge thunderstorm came, and lasted about 5 minutes. Then the sun came out again. Then it snowed. Then with dark storm clouds nestled all around, the sun came out again. It was a strange day, which I thought warranted a strange shot. :)
GTW 5849 started life hauling coal and steel on the Pittsburgh & Lake Erie before coming to the Grand Trunk Western and running on freight trains across Michigan while CN 1444 starting life as a six-axle GMD1 toting branchline grain trains on the prairies. Decades later they have briefly come together to work yard jobs out of CN's Hamilton, Ontario yard.

My opportunities to get out and shoot some new stuff is pretty much zero at the moment so it's back to the archives for something to upload.
Hope everyone is keeping safe out there. Fingers crossed that 2021 will bring some chances to get out with the camera.
Clouds dropped below the mountain range! First time seeing this here. Bear in mind, the Valley is about 1600 feet above sea level.

The area between Kluane Lake and Haines Junction, Yukon, skirting the great cordillera of the Wrangell / St. Elias Mtn. range, is commonly productive of these stacked lenticular clouds ... In late summer, as the sun begins to set around 11 PM, it's beautiful to see these unique clouds, which are higher in altitude than their surrounding companions, catching the last peach colored rays of the sun.
On the rock pools and on the drying sand between the rocks at Marengo Beach are these strange wiggly lines as creature unseen make their erratic way around, For Definitely Dreaming week 30 theme of Strange. The rock ledges have some great patterns and shapes

Dear all, I will find a moment during the day to visit your photo stream, have a good day!
Ever since I've heard about Iceland I wanted to visit its wild and largely untouched highlands. They are one of the few true wilderness areas which can still be found in Europe. The Landmannalagaur region which its famous colorful rhyolite mountains is probably one of the most spectacular landscapes inside the highlands. However, during my first two visits of Iceland I didn't have a change to go there. Since it's off the popular ring road and you can't find any paved roads going there, you'll need an offroad vehicle to drive to it. If you've ever been Iceland you know how expensive these cars can be but on the third visit to the island I finally pulled the plug and rented a small SUV for our whole trip.
Well, actually we did only rent a Suzuki Jimny which is the smallest four-wheel SUV which you can find in Iceland. But when we arrived at the car rental we couldn't see any of them. Instead we were handed keys to a Mercedes -- as a free upgrade. So while I expected to drive with a small car through the rugged landscape, we sat in a big Merced GLK instead with all the convenience inside which you can imagine. It almost felt out of place. But I guess you cannot complain when you get a car which is worth twice as much as the one you originally rented.
Anyway, after driving all the way to the Landmannalaugar base camp through many lava fields the car and how we got there quickly faded back in my memory. Instead I was in absolutely awe with the landscape around me. It's hard to do it justice with pictures but it looked like an incredible beautiful oasis in a sea of rocks. The colors of the mountains are just spectacular and even though I've been to many places around the world already, it was definitely one of the most extraordinary. Unfortunately we only spent half a day hiking through these strange lands. If I knew how great it looked in reality, I would definitely have spent a couple of days there hiking. I think it's one of the big natural wonders of this world.
