The vascular cylinder or stele in young stems consists of a ring of vascular bundles interspaced with medullary rays of parenchyma cells. Seasonal activity of the cambium replaces the isolated vascular bundles with well-defined annual rings of secondary phloem and xylem. Xylem is endarch with protoxylem found towards center of the stem and younger metaxylem towards the periphery of the stem. Protoxylem consists of annular and spiral tracheids with only tracheids found in metaxylem. True xylem vessels are lacking. Because of the greater production of xylem, the vascular cylinder is dominated by radially arranged rays of secondary xylem interspaced with medullary rays of parenchyma cells. Conspicuous resin ducts are present throughout the xylem.

Phloem is endarch but annual growth the of stem makes it difficult to distinguish between older protophloem to the periphery and younger metapholem towards center of the stem. Phloem lacks companion cells, consisting entirely of sieve tubes and phloem parenchyma. Medullary rays in the secondary phloem include protein rich albuminous cells.

This little program looks for photos on flickr by a given search word. Afterwards, the colors of the photos are analyzed. The color itself gets detected and how often each color is found. This data is the foundation of every stem. Each segment represents one color of the photo, the diameter shows the quantity. The cell resolution in all segments is based on the brightness of the color.

Another result of my apparently endless obsession with glass and light.... Two things that interested me here are (i) the gradient in the light being transmitted through the stem, and (ii) the banding produced by fairly subtle depth variations in the foot of the glass.

Science, Technology Engineering, and Math at Cypress Elementary.

Late Friday night, 40 high school girls arrived at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland, for a STEM-themed sleepover, ready to learn about careers in Science, technology, engineering and math. The educational event offered young women a chance to meet working female scientists and to discover opportunities for women in STEM-related professions.

The teens kicked off the third annual STEM Girls Night In with an astronaut Q&A, talks from female scientists across disciplines and a collection of hands-on activities. The night culminated in a three-hour Mars rover competition and concluded with a late-night showing of “Hidden Figures.”

This image is a photomicrograph of an epidermal peel of the surface of a young stem. On the stems the stomata (gas exchange pores) are more or less confined to the grooves. This is an adaptation which helps to reduce water loss through evapotranspiration. There are fine hairs on the ridges, which may reduce airflow over the stem surface.

In this image the largest stomata are approximately 20 µm wide and 28 µm long.

Ashley Spence, right, laughs as classmate Tajha Johnson makes her way through the virtual under sea world, during a visit to the Technology Innovation Sandbox in the library of Penn State College of Medicine on Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2018. Twenty-five students from the Milton Hershey School spent the day at Penn State Health, who teamed up with the American Heart Association and Centric Bank to host the first regional STEM Goes Red event, the aim of which was to empower young women to improve heart and brain health through pursuing careers in science, technology, engineering and math.

Urology focuses on the urinary tracts of males and females, and on the reproductive system of males. In men, the urinary system overlaps with the reproductive system, and in women the urinary tract opens into the vulva. In both sexes, the urinary and reproductive tracts are close together, and disorders of one often affect the other. Call us for more information>>>Dr. Todd malan
