One bonus of not getting up early due to weather is your awake to stay out later and make use of clear skies!
So our intrepid Hero Holiday group sheltered from the howling winds by Mt Cook airport in the lee of the raised road and cars. We had an impromptu astro workshop and we all got started shooting some stars.
I decided the road lined up nicely with the mountains ( Sealy Range) and despite the high winds, surprisingly high traffic and group to try shoot a pano.
20 frames on my canon 5d mk4 at ISO 6400, f2.0 and 15 seconds, using my Novoflex VR slim. some of the frames are a little wind affected but I loved the comp overall, usually I'd skip but well it makes a pretty picture anyhow!

Stars and the Milky Way Night Sky with Rock Platform and Headland taken from North Avoca Beach on the Central Coast of NSW, Australia.
this is about 14 hours of data on the Cave nebula. Taken from a remote Observatory in Trevinca Spain. Nebula data is all narrowband data, the stars are from 1 hour of RGB data

The Silent Witness
“I STAND FOR PEACE – HONOR - TRUTH AND JUSTICE. I STAND FOR FREEDOM...I HAVE BEEN A SILENT WITNESS TO ALL OF AMERICA’S FINEST HOURS.”
The title is taken from the poem, My Name is Old Glory by Howard Schnauber. May we always strive to live up to these ideal.
Race medal with stars and the old "aluminum foil bokeh" trick.

Nightphotography has really got into me. It is so beautiful just to watch stars and milkyway in total darkness and take pictures.

"floating here
like this with you
underneath the stars
aligned
for 13 billion years
the view
it's beautiful
and ours alone tonight
underneath the stars
spinning round
and round with you
watching shadows
melt the lights
so shining
from our eyes
a tear
another space is ours
alone tonight
watch as shadows melt
the waves, break
the waves, break
whisper in my ear, a wish
"we could drift away so far"
your voice
inside of my head
like this
it's infinite
the hours alone tonight
we could drift away...."

Here is another comp of the Crater Lake Lodge that I tried to adjust at the location I was standing (in the dark) that would allow the lodge and the lake be in the frame at the same time.
This is looking towards the north and west ... well after the sun has set.

Here is a widefield astrophotography featuring the bright and clustered stars of the Pleiades, also known as the Seven Sisters, set against the hazy and ethereal glow of the California Nebula. The Pleiades, located in the constellation Taurus and known as Messier 45 (M45) in the Messier catalog, is a well-known and easily recognizable open star cluster, known for its bright and blue stars. The California Nebula, named for its resemblance to the shape of the state of California and designated as NGC 1499 in the New General Catalogue (NGC), is a faint and diffuse emission nebula located in the constellation Perseus. The combination of these two celestial objects in this single photograph makes for a striking and awe-inspiring image, showcasing the beauty and diversity of the night sky. I'm not saying this picture is out of this world, but it's definitely not from this planet! The stars in the Pleiades are so bright that they should be called the Seven Supermodels of the sky.
