Amongst many others, stargazer lilies were one of my Mum's favourite flowers, and my sister and I chose to have some in the arrangement for her coffin. I will always be reminded of her when I see these lovely lilies.

The hardest thing about the last few weeks that my Mum spent in hospital was not being allowed to visit her, I was only given permission to visit on the day before she passed away.

If people sat outside and looked at the stars each night, I bet they would live a lot differently

Hope they survive the rain this weekend! Happy Floral Friday!

Lilium Stargazer is a hybrid lily of the Oriental group.

Oriental lilies are known for their fragrant perfume, blooming

mid-to-late Summer.

Stargazers ae easy to grow and do best in full sunlight.

They have a fast growth rate and should be planted in full sun in well-drained loamy or sandy soil.

One of the last nights of this remarkable trip to the most northern part of Europe. It’s already 2:02am when the sky opens up and the camera catches the Aurora, dancing over the sky while theres already the upcoming dawning of the new day. It’s end of March and only some weeks to later until midnight Sun. Noticed that little spot of light on the left close to the lighthouse on the Barentssea? This is the southbound Hurtigruten boat.

So pleased to see these gorgeous Stargazer Lilies come in to bloom again this year. A special gift from a special friend last year.

Stargazer lilies are a combination of Oriental and Asiatic lilies. They were named by Leslie Woodruff, a lily grower and breeder, in reference to the way the blooms of this flower point towards the sky. Stargazers have only been around for a couple of decades but have quickly gained popularity.

Stargazers are believed to symbolise innocence and purity but the meaning changes with the colour of the flower. For example, a pink stargazer lily symbolises prosperity and abundance. Yellow stargazers express joy and of course, white stargazers signify purity and innocence. Other meanings for this good-looking flower are success and determination, commitment, passion and the fulfilment of dreams.

Stars spill through my window; enveloping me in dreams of what lies beyond.

April 27, 2008: My first refractions. A big thank you to holgeruweschmitt, whose beautiful and technically perfect work motivated me to try this. So much more to learn here!

A Dof study using stargazer lilies. I tested a full range of apertures, and ended up liking the nearly shallowest Dof best. Hopefully the dreamy appearance and dreamy title of this photo will make it closer to those I see on the Explore :-)

I needed a bit of a break from the sepia toned world I've been living in......not much color in the landscape here in January!

these pretty lilies were blooming in a little patch of garden in front of one of my neighbors houses down in Wildwood.
