No longer having a purpose, this Milwaukee Road searchlight signal stands as a reminder of what once was in the northwoods.
An Australian Pelican waiting patiently for lunch time to roll around at Charis Fish Market, on the Gold Coast. Once the fish have been filleted, the remaining frames are fed to the many waiting Pelicans. These birds are amazing fliers, with a 2.5m wingspan, and have been seen at great heights, and covering long distances.
The prehistoric stone circle at Machrie Moor on the island of Arran has a diameter of 13.7 metres, and may originally have consisted of seven or eight tall sandstone slabs, three of which survive intact, their heights ranging from 3.7 to 4.9 metres. The mountain behind the stones is Goat Fell. It's a wild almost mystical place.
Look at all those trees, standing together against all the destinies, trunks green from time, yet catching light and fresh air. They guard a heart of forest, hidden somewhere there, beneath their branches, beneath their roots, creating the collective soul.

I saw these two seagulls standing in a puddle at the parking lot around the lake area at Flushing Meadow Park. The wind was very calm giving the water a clean non-ripple look. I caught a nice reflection of not only the birds but the sky as well. My thanks to all in advance for your comments :-)
Six Black-necked Stilts, San Joaquin Marsh. All six standing on one leg. Four of them are standing on the left leg and two are standing on the right leg.
Found this single poppy hanging on in a field of barley, It made me think about what it had taken for it to live and thrive there all on it's own; it just got me thinking ! Taken on the South downs, East Sussex, UK

Protea flowers at the Dandenong Ranges Botanic Park. This is a taller tree with beautiful large whitish flowers
Visited RSPB Snettisham this morning for the Spectacular - and wasn't dissapointed. Managed to get there for 6am and then walked to the hides / viewpoint. The car park was almost full.
Have never been there for this event - where a particulalry high tide drives the waders off the wash and into the lagoon - where the birds congregate in huge numbers before returning to the shore when the tide starts to recede. Murmerations galore! The sound of thousand of birds flying so close was amazing! Even the sound they make milling around on the island is quite mesmerising.
Someone estimated that there were at least 100,000 birds of various species active this morning - no idea how you work that out!
Had to stand on tip toe to see the group of Knots milling about on the small lagoon island - shooting into the sun to try and get some backlighting. Actually could have done with a smaller aperture than F11 as I was trying to get a really slow shutter speed to show motion blur on the moving birds - but 1/40 was all I could manage - even deliverately over exposing. Maybe a tripod would have been useful too. But at least carrying just the RF800mm and RP was heaven!
I ideally wanted one bird to be stock still, somewhere central and looking at me - but only got the back of his head. Maybe next time!
If you haven't been i highly recommend it, providing you are guaranteed good light by the met office.
