"Stairway to Heaven | Sculpture by Didier Fiúza Faustino / Bureau des Mesarchitectures

"Stairway to Heaven gives the individual the opportunity to stage himself. While playing alone in the elevated platform, he dominates a territory as well as he puts himself under others sight. Stairway to Heaven plays on the ambiguity of public and private: it offers a public space for an individual use and utilizes the figure of the collective housing stairway which is a public space within a private property. There's a lady who's sure all that glitters is gold

And she's buying a stairway to heaven

And when she gets there she knows if the stores are closed

With a word she can get what she came for

Woe oh oh oh oh oh

And she's buying a stairway to heaven

There's a sign on the wall but she wants to be sure

And you know sometimes words have two meanings

In the tree by the brook there's a songbird who sings

Sometimes all of our thoughts are misgiven

Woe oh oh oh oh oh

And she's buying a stairway to heaven

There's a feeling I get when I look to the west

And my spirit is crying for leaving

In my thoughts I have seen rings of smoke through the trees

And the voices of those who stand looking

Woe oh oh oh oh oh

And she's buying a stairway to heaven

And it's whispered that soon, if we all call the tune

Then the piper will lead us to reason

And a new day will dawn for those who stand long

And the forest will echo with laughter

And it makes me wonder

If there's a bustle in your hedgerow

Don't be alarmed now

It's just a spring clean for the May Queen

Yes there are two paths you can go by

but in the long run

There's still time to change the road you're on

Your head is humming and it won't go because you don't know

The piper's calling you to join him

Dear lady can't you hear the wind blow and did you know

Your stairway lies on the whispering wind

And as we wind on down the road

Our shadows taller than our souls

There walks a lady we all know

Who shines white light and wants to show

How everything still turns to gold

And if you listen very hard

The tune will come to you at last

When all are one and one is all

To be a rock and not to roll

Woe oh oh oh oh oh

And she's buying a stairway to heaven

There's a lady who's sure all that glitters is gold

And she's buying a stairway to heaven

And when she gets there she knows if the stores are closed

With a word she can get what she came for

And she's buying a stairway to heaven, uh uh uh.

The rest of my photos and the story of the Haiku Steps, aka Stairway to Heaven, is here.

"Stairway to Heaven" was an arduous climb from the foot of the Wawayanda Mountain in Vernon, NJ. The Pinwheel vista point is about 3/4 of the way to the top. But trust me, this is a good place to stop and turn around.

Awesome 2 days in Saint Lucia, West Indies! What a beautiful island, people are so kind and nice, and landscapes around Soufrière are amazing!

Spiral stairway in the Ponce Inlet Lighthouse. Shot at a high ISO having left my flash (doh), so did the B&W thing to give me that old Tmax feel. Used the superwide to make you hopefully feel dizzy :-D Not bad for handheld at 1/10 with no IS huh?

Day 49 for the "2019: one photo each day" group.

It's @TheBlondeAbroad, your #WCW, signing off with a shot from one of my most epic #adventures to date. I mentioned that I've taken many of my trips solo, so it's not always easy to get photos of myself. I had been #hiking for about 8 hours, was covered in mud and quite frankly didn't have the energy to ask someone to take a photo of me. Instead, I used my #GoPro and 3-way mount to capture the moment the way I felt it: #epic, intimidating and freakin' awesome. Thanks so much for following along and for the opportunity to share some of my adventures with you! -@TheBlondeAbroad #GoProGirl #StairwayToHeaven #Hawaii #TheBlondeAbroad

I just missed the train north and wound up on the south train today instead. I had plans for the north and was initially at a loss when I found myself going the other direction. However, I was drawn to Union Cemetery. The last time I explored these grounds with my camera was almost one year ago, with Kent, a former member of my photo group. Kent and I had such a great time joking and exploring together. He was so full of warmth and was excitedly looking forward to a birthday surprise from his wife. It was the first time I had met Kent and was looking forward to shooting with him in the future. Unfortunately, Kent took his own life before I had the chance to meet him again. Even though it was a few hours on one day, Kent touched me and being back at the Union cemetery made me feel like I was stopping by and saying hi to an old friend.

These famous steps in the Highbridge neighborhood of the Bronx, NYC (south of 167th St., b/w Sakespeare and Anderson Aves) have been used in many movies and tv shows before. But with the release of the new movie, Joker, they have now become INFAMOUS!
