Chkalovskaya staircase - one of the symbols of Nizhny Novgorod. It connects the Nizhnevolzhskaya, Verkhnevolzhskaya embankments and the main city square - Minin and Pozharsky Square. The Chkalov ladder was built in honor of the victory of the Soviet people in the Battle of Stalingrad. This is one of the longest stairs in Russia. Initially, the stairs were called Stalingrad. It owes its present name to the monument to the outstanding pilot Valery Chkalov installed on the upper observation deck. A favorite question related to the stairs: “How many steps does she have?”. If you believe the numerous sites about Nizhny Novgorod, then the steps 560.
So let's go up and take a look at the view from the verandah of the main courtyard. We can do this via this very nice old spiraling staircase.
