I finished the model of SS Kyle earlier this month and she is about to sail away to her new home! This was a fun project and was the first time I used a lot of CAD and 3D printing to create a model. I learned quite a few things from this project and look forward to doing more ships like this.

I found some experienced volunteers here, who were willing and able to explain to me much more than I could ever hope to understand!

Continuing the tour with the help of the audio guide, I took my time and was given extra explanations here and there by the volunteers who were in charge of some of the venues. It was a bitterly cold and windy day, and some of the decks were slippery with frost.

SS Maheno was an ocean liner belonging to the Union Company of New Zealand that operated in the Tasman Sea, crossing between New Zealand and Australia, from 1905 until 1935.

She was also used as a ship by the New Zealand Naval Forces during World War I; as His Majesty's New Zealand Hospital Ship No. 1. She was washed ashore on Fraser Island by a cyclone in 1935 where the disintegrating wreck remains as a popular tourist attraction.
