The VSCC (Vintage Sports Car Club of Great Britain) event at the Oulton Park race circuit in Cheshire attracted about 150 entries in all. This shot shows a typical mix of automotive exotica in a handicap race. Other races included '50s F1 cars and pre '60s Sports cars. A wonderful (if pricey) nostalgic day out!

- Early 50s Sir John Black, the former director, instructed designer Walter Belgrove to produce a prototype, which in 1950 resulted in the Triumph TR X, also known as the "Bullet". For several reasons it wasn't a success.
- However, Black saw a clear market for a small, inexpensive sports car and in 1951 Belgrove and chassis designer Harry Webster again commissioned to design a prototype, based on Triumph parts: The engine of a Standard Vanguard, suspension of the Triumph Mayflower and the chassis of the pre-war Standard Flying Nine.
- In 1952 this prototype appeared at the annual London Motor Show, called 20TS (Triumph Sports), later renamed as TR1. "TR" stands for Triumph Roadster.
- As a "sports car" BRM test driver Ken Richardson called it "a death-trap". The car never went into production and nobody knows if this car still exists and were it is.
- A year later, the improved design by Walter Belgrove and Triumph chief engineer Ted Grinham, was unveiled as Triumph TR 2 and shown in March 1953 at the Geneva Motor Show.
- The TR2 is built on an all-new ladder type frame with revised independent coil-sprung suspension at the front, a leaf spring live axle at the rear, Lockheed drum brakes all around and an uprated engine and is always recognized by its inside placed grille.
- The engine is fed by a two SU carburettors, has a four-speed manual gearbox with overdrive available on top gear as an option and rear wheel drive.
- The body is primitive: cramped interior with "sting windows" in the carved doors, that are opened from the outside by a hand through a slot in the window and pulling the door lock with a drawstring.
- Available options are a removable hardtop and wire wheels.
- From 1955 the doors were shortened.
- The TR2 was designed to challenge MG in the sports car export market (in total 5521 for all export☺!) to North America and the Americans loved this two-seater roadster.
P.S. for some reason this upload failed several times ☺☺!

Winter season in Bangladesh being dry and cool, all schools hold their Annual Sports during this period. The high school in my village (Shailan, Dhamrai) organized its Annual Sports on January 21st. Bangladesh being a country where more than 85 percent are Muslims, participation of girls in such ‘manly’ extra-curricular activities is not encouraged, especially in a rural conservative setting as it is in Shailan! But times are changing. The boy and girl students’ ratio in Shailan School is almost 50-50; in a few classes girls outnumber boys! Also girls are at the top of some of the classes. This is very heartening indeed!! If boys can.. we can too!!
If this 100 meters dash were timed.. none of these girls made it in less than 20 seconds!! But these girls are taking part at 100 meters sprint is quite an achievement in itself!!
After Brazil won its very first gymnastics gold medal at this year's olympic games, there was a spike of popularity of the genre in here. So much so that a month later the Brazilian National Gymnastics Championship was held in several cities, including mine.

Special:
- The “Classic Bird” or “Little Bird” Series (1955-1957: 53.166 units built), designed by Lewis D. Crusoe, William P. Boyer, Frank Hershey and George Walker, was Ford's successful answer to the Chevrolet Corvette (1953).
- It was named after a bird from Native American mythology representing power and strength, devised by Alden “Gib” Biberson, for which he received a $95 suit and an extra pair of pants from Saks Fifth Avenue.
- The T-bird was at first shown on February 20th, 1954 at the Detroit Auto Show as concept car and at first introduced in 1955 as a real luxury sports car with a standard fiberglass removable top, with over 4,000 orders taken on its first day of sale.
- Only for three years the Ford Thunderbird was built as a two-seater, in the base identical to differ only in the details. Like only the ’56 model had the spare tire mounted on the rear bumper (Continental Kit) and the first model with a 12 Volts electric system and a 76 liter fuel tank while the ’57 model (spare tire again in the trunk) became little tail fins, a restyled grill, fresh bumper designs, larger brakes, stiffer chassis crossmembers and new 14-inch wheels.
- Top of the line was the rare, only 205 units built (by Pete DePaolo in California, under factory sponsorship) Thunderbird Convertible 312 Supercharged V-8 overdrive or “F-Bird”: CID 312 (5113cc) V-8 engine - 304 bhp / 4.800 rpm - 595 Nm / 2.600 rpm - Holley 4-barrel carburettor with McCulloh/Plaxton centrifugal VR-57 supercharger - four-speed manual gearbox - 203 km/h (with a Ford-O-Matic three-speed automatic transmission 199 km/h).
