Scenic Splendor

Little Finland

Gold Butte National Monument

Nevada

April 2021

Little Finland is a scenic Aztec sandstone area located in a remote section of Gold Butte National Monument. It is famous for it’s strangely-shaped and delicate rock formations.

The area is also known as Hobgoblin’s Playground and Devil’s Fire.

Chegou a vez desse lindo! Uma pena a câmera não captar nem 10% da beleza dele, a cor é linda, cheio de glitter, brilha muito!

Tenho Ellen Gold graças à Lê, que realizou meu desejo de ter a marca. Que é muito boa por sinal. To amando!! ♥

Solomon wrote that gray hair is the splendor of the old. A topping of gray and white has settled on this old beauty and the faint light of the night sky caresses it as the deserted barn enters another night.

I wasn't sure if this style would work on an FR, but, I'm glad it did. =)

This model, in her costume of fantasy, kindly posed for passersby on the Ponte della Paglia. The Ponte de i Sospiri (Bridge of Sighs) is in the background. This image was made just after the Carnevale celebration was closed down. Venetians complied with the ban for the most part. but some brave souls went about in their grand costumes to the delight of those of us who came there to enjoy the event.

This album is posted on 19 Mar 2020 as an antidote to all the bad news about Covid-19 in Italy, and Venice in particular. The photographs were made at what should have been a high point of Carneval. Unfortunately, the day before Shrove Tuesday, Italy shut down Carnival celebrations, including in Venice.

For my family's part, we arrived as the full force of the outbreak was just beginning to strike Italy. It was our good fortune to be able see and enjoy our planned itinerary with only one or two cancellations, and to arrive back home in good health.

All best wishes for good health go to the Italian people as they deal with the virus.

A watery sun over the plowed ground. How beautiful is that!

At roughly ten stories high, Proxy Falls are so intense in size and magnitude that you can just photograph sections of the falls and still get dramatic results. This image represents just the lower one third of the falls, and its still breath taking.

Extremely hot here in Dixie, so I thought I'd edit an existing photo here to remind myself of cooler times.

Waterfalls are spectacular, simultaneously beautiful, uplifting, overwhelming and bringing such immediacy into our minds. There is no wondering about what the waterfalls were like yesterday, no way to know what they'll look like tomorrow. There will always be a shade of difference, a nuance noticed or not, but to see them right now, in this moment in their powerful splendor---that is the way to celebrate the present. ~ Author Unknown

I have always been fascinated by these flowers, so bought a plant today, for less than a temporary bouquet. I should be set for years.

How big and powerful are Proxy Falls? To give you an idea of the magnitude of this awe-inspiring waterfall, it's roughly a twenty minute hike from the parking lot to the falls - and you can actually hear the cascading water of the falls ten minutes before you even get to them. Today's mid afternoon light was amazing, as the sun shot lasers of light at the falls and piercing the mist along the way. Proxy Falls are the equivalent of twenty stories high, and this image shows about twenty-five percent of the falls.

I got quick orders to come to Raleigh NC to work for the holiday. I took this driving to the hotel yesterday. My coworker pulled over on the highway for me to take a couple of quick shots. I am in awe at the beauty here. I am going out now to explore a bit and will be back to comment on your photos later. I start work at 4am so my commenting will be a bit off from normal for this week.

Although the temperatures feel like winter the Palm Warblers are in the spring splendor. A tame and curious little bird I find them easier to photograph than most.
