Spent some time in the heart of the valley :)

Taken at Longwood Gardens, Kennett Square, PA a few years back. At the end of the season, the horticulturalists pull the lilies out of the ponds and put the roots to rest for the winter. This bloom was lying on a pond border, trimmed from the rootstock, prior to being sent to make compost. I enjoyed the color and the form.

Spent a lovely evening on Holy Island recently and this scene jumped out at me.

I spent some time last week rediscovering how much fun it is to shoot sunsets with a wide angle lens and Singh Ray filters. Then I pulled out my trusty 50mm (no extension tubes) and rediscovered why I love this lens.

I’m not sure what these are but they pop up everywhere around here.

Have a great Tuesday!

Spent the weekend close to home. Had a busy work week and didn't feel very adventurous. That didn't stop me from exploring.

Gas works park was fun.

Thank you most kindly for stopping by to view my work.

If you find you have a few words to say about what I have done they will be much appreciated.

My best regards to you.... Martin

I broke down today and finally bought Lightroom, I have a lot to learn. I just had to go out and get some shots this afternoon to try out the new program. Hope you enjoy the results.

Spent a couple of hours today at The National White Water Centre - Canolfan Dŵr Gwyn Genedlaethol, didn't venture too far from the cafe as the tea and cake was too nice As you might expect, I took a few snaps whilst I was there, don't know why I don't visit more often, I always enjoy it here

Spent some time today with the wild Bank Voles. The farmers Corn on the Cob fields have been cut and many have been left and the animals are having a field day.

If you have time best viewed large on black...

I spent a second morning at Kirkjufell, but instead of aiming again for the famous Kirkjufellfoss I went for some reflections along the lake.

Interested in a photo tour through the American Southwest? I can help you with it and make you come back with unique shots.

I spent some time with the Williams Boys (Craig, Caleb & Preston) on the way back from my western vacation. Had a great time hanging out along the Mississippi River throwing a football around on a beach. Oh, and there were a few trains to distract us as well. Here is the CP job out of Nahant that serves the large Ipsco steel mill near Montpelier.

The Montpelier Works utilizes electric arc furnaces to melt and

recycle scrap steel at an annual capacity of 1,250,000 tons.

The plant produces hot-rolled plate, coil, and slit coil products.

I really like these SD30C rebuilds and this was my first time seeing them in person.

We spent the last September weekend at Balls 29, a big experimental rocket launch event in the Black Rock Desert in Nevada - the same place where Burning Man takes place. On Sunday morning we went to see the Fly Geyser nature wonder, located in the Fly Ranch adjacent to the playa. The Burning Man Project bought the 3,800 acres ranch in 2016. Thank you Will Roger to show us around the private lands at sunrise! Will lives now in nearby Gerlach, and is one of the 6 founders of Burning Man.

The Fly Geyser is the result of man-made drilling in 1916 when water well drilling accidentally penetrated a geothermal source. When geothermal water at close to boiling point was found, the well was abandoned, and a calcium carbonate structure formed over time. The structure changes shape over time. The geyser contains thermophilic algae, which flourish in moist, hot environments, resulting in multiple hues of green and red, coloring the rocks.

I spent a few days hiking in the Sedona, Arizona area in mid-December. The hike up to Devil's Bridge was a challenge, but the view was great (getting back down was worse than the climb up). The 4.5-mile out-and-back is rated as "moderate" .... maybe it was trying to protect the camera that made it seem harder for me ;)

Spent the day at the Pirate Festival in North Las Vegas to photograph all the cool and interesting people.

Spent some time in my garden hide recently hoping for Jays and Great Spotted Woodpeckers to show, all I got this time was 14 Jackdaws!!

Worth zooming in on this one and at ISO 4000!!!

On this gorgeous Fall-like day, Chippie spent his time eating and stocking his pantries...

They eat about 20% of their body weight, average 4 grams, and eat about six times a day!

I spent a week in Zeeland, main reason was to visit Brugge. And indeed a fantastic city, I knew it would be wonderful, but I was overwhelmed by its beauty.

Unfortunately most of my pictures are crap, because of the wagon loads of tourists roaming the streets, and because of the very hard light of a bright shining sun.

The shot shown here can hardly be a surprise because it is seen on so many flickr accounts. I know it is a clichƩ, but a beautiful one.

spent Saturday at the LA County Fair. I'm so glad it only comes around once a year. I was exhausted!!! Desiree had a blast though!!!

We spent a lovely afternoon with our great granddaughter Alice yesterday! She slept the whole time!! I caught this sweet moment as her mom was kissing her! They live so far away so we are trying to see as much of them as we can while they are close by.

Thanks for your visits and have a great weekend.

Spent the night on Holy Island Northumberland, trying to capture the Quadrantid meteors. spot of light painting followed to keep us entertained. LP created by Gopostal and ElliesLion. Thanks chaps.

I spent quite a few mornings walking in weather that felt all too cold for handling a mid-century folding camera. I use a number of them, mainly Zeiss and Voigtlander (not the premium models), though I am curious to branch out, if the price of film ever comes back into range from its distant horizon. I have a (to me) obscure Japanese folder that I am keen to clean up (minor fungus, major dust) and try. Where am I going with this thought ... ah yes ... using slightly variant models sometimes means I forget what idiot-proofing features are present where. So it is that I turned several photographs that I expected to be pleasingly nostalgic winter wonderland affairs into something rather more surreal and disconcerting ...

I spent a good part of the day checking out the migrants at the Quintana Neotropical Bird Sanctuary and wow there were lots of them around. However, when the light was getting low at the back drip, I decided to run over to Brazoria NWR to take advantage of the beautiful light. With the water as high as it is there weren’t a whole lot of great opportunities but this young Yellow-crowned Night Heron was just begging to be photographed. I decided to see how much of the frame I could fill with the bird’s head. This shot is uncropped and even at f/11 the DOF is REALLY thin. Makes me appreciate all those macro photographers a little more.

I spent Sunday on a photography trip with Calgary photographer, Neil Zeller. We were in search of canola fields and bridges. This is one of my favs so far. They just stared at us, and went about their business of munching and lounging. I will apologize in advance for the onslaught of canola related shots that I may be posting in the future. :-)

I spent a beguiling hour or so by this spot up in the Langstrath Valley. It was great sitting all alone with a packed lunch and flask of hot tea contemplating this scene.

There is something extremely therapeutic about being all alone in a tranquil and relatively remote spot. Taking images here was also a joy. There are so many different compositions along this series of cascades with the lone tree and the flanks of this wonderful valley.

I will be posting a couple more where I managed to get some light breaking through from slightly higher up with the bulk of Blea Crag as a backdrop. All in all a very pleasant stroll and my knee rehabilitation well on track!

Spent a very pleasant afternoon at Waldegraves pool with [https://www.flickr.com/photos/japes3/] and [https://www.flickr.com/photos/stevebalcombe/] hunting Dragons. Nice to see the Common hawkers are still hanging in there...

Spent 5 days in bitter cold Hokkaido and I love this part of Japan where I can get these dream shots, very close. xlolx

Spent a few days in Big Bend National Park, current events, never ending drama.....watching the Milky Way...over the famous Casa Grande in the Chisos Mountains pondering whats out there in the Universe makes it all go away....Bortle 1 skies....some of the darkest anywhere in the USA

I spent most of May 25 in the Whiskey Dick Unit of L. T. Murray Wildlife Area. I drove and walked Pumphouse Road and Whiskey Dick Road in search for wildflowers and in particular the barrel cactus. Many wildflower are at peak bloom but the cactus are just starting to bloom. I have in the past photographed the cactus in mid April. I will post a number of photos taken in L T Murray WLA, Kittitas County, Washington of the wildflowers and a few bird photo the next few days.

Spent a morning on Brownsea island while we were in Dorset last month and were lucky to see plenty of the red squirrels.

Spent a Saturday in Hoi An. A great location to experience the historic architecture with plenty of chances to view and capture the local Vietnamese in their element.

The sunflowers stopped blooming a month ago. They're looking quite ragged. We left them standing for the birds to feast on their seeds. The maple beyond our neighbor's garage has lost its leaves. #inktober2020 October25, 2020

I spent most of my day off yesterday holed up inside trying to study and get stuff done around my house. I'm lucky to have many big windows and I noticed that the sunset was pretty spectacular. I didn't have time to go out and drive somplace to get a good shot, so I tried to get one through the window! It didn't go so well, so I decided to jump in the picture myself! I was surprised to see that the lights from the golf course made some nice bokeh balls...bonus!

I'm submitting this to the Cliche scavenger hunt theme "Body parts - ears, eyes, nose, throat...etc" since this is basically just a shot of my neck. Plus, an angst-y self portrait is always nice and cliche ;-)

HCS!!!

I spent all day last Saturday sat on the beach trying to get this shot, through wind and rain - and eventually sun!

I wanted to get the Snow Buntings flying low over the beach, perpendicular to my plane of focus and of course with their chests towards me - showing off all that white plumage (so ideally mostly males) - preferably lit up by either early morning or late afternoon golden sun. So not really asking for much.

It is surprisingly difficult to focus on the flock when they are swirling around.

Thankfully though I eventually managed to track them properly, low over the beach, just the once.

All of the birds in this shot are males.
