The covenant equivalent of a Warthog, the Spectre is not the most well known covenant vehicle, although it is pretty awesome. Sorry it took so long to finish it. My bricklink order didn't come for another two weeks. By the way, I'm still going to try to keep building while I'm organizing my Legos, because I now see that this is going to take a long time, and I don't want to not build for the next six months. Anyways, in the meantime I hope you like this creation.

Not a great shot of my broken spectre, but you dont get to see many of them ( unless you are called Jon and you see two in as many days ).
I have seen it once before not far from here many years ago. The sun creates a shadow and rainbow just below on the low cloud in the valley.

A Brocken spectre (German Brockengespenst), also called Brocken bow or mountain spectre, is the apparently enormous and magnified shadow of an observer, cast upon the upper surfaces of clouds opposite the sun. The phenomenon can appear on any misty mountainside or cloud bank, or even from an aeroplane, but the frequent fogs and low-altitude accessibility of the Brocken, a peak in the Harz Mountains in Germany, have created a local legend from which the phenomenon draws its name. The Brocken spectre was observed and described by Johann Silberschlag in 1780, and has since been recorded often in literature about the region. However it can be seen in any mountain region. (The dubious term glockenspectre has also been used to refer to the phenomenon; however, there appears to be no reliable evidence of its accuracy.)
The "spectre" appears when the sun shines from behind the observer, who is looking down from a ridge or peak into mist or fog. The light projects their shadow through the mist, often in a triangular shape due to perspective. The apparent magnification of size of the shadow is an optical illusion that occurs when the observer judges his or her shadow on relatively nearby clouds to be at the same distance as faraway land objects seen through gaps in the clouds, or when there are no reference points by which to judge its size. The shadow also falls on water droplets of varying distances from the eye, confusing depth perception. The ghost can appear to move (sometimes suddenly) because of the movement of the cloud layer and variations in density within the cloud.
The head of the figure is often surrounded by the glowing halo-like rings of a glory, rings of coloured light that appear directly opposite the sun when sunlight is reflected by a cloud of uniformly-sized water droplets. The effect is caused by the refraction of visible light.
Yesterday morning, I observed a very small group of spinner dolphins circling slowly in Honaunau Bay. The small size of the group, coupled with the subdued behavior seemed unusual. As I swam out on the surface, a large male dolphin approached me very directly. As I prepared to focus my camera on him, I was shocked to see the numerous scars and torn flesh that covered his body. He circled me slowly several times as if to show me the large bites from cookie cutter sharks as well as rake marks on all appendages that appeared to be the work of other dolphins Long streamers of ragged flesh trailed from his flukes. After I descended he returned to me a few more times. He was accompanied by a less scarred female and her calf. They seemed to be his companions and never drifted far from him. Usually a dive with dolphins is an exhilarating experience, but not so this day. While we tend to associate playfulness and exuberance with dolphins the facts are that they are wild animals living in a harsh environment and are subject to horrible misfortune at times.

Sven Augustijnen : Spectres.
Sven Augustijnen lives and works in Brussels. These last years, Augustijnen has been working on Spectres, a long film (90 min), which analyses Belgian colonial history, in particular the assassination of Patrice Lumumba. 100 years after Leopold II’s death and 50 years after the Independence of Congo, the characters in Spectres (ex-colonials, royalists, psychiatrists, communists, believers, historians and anticolonialists), are still being haunted by the colonial past. Alongside the film, a number of other works created during Augustijnen’s research will be presented, such as photographs, publications, sculptures, original documents, etc.

Sven Augustijnen toont met zijn nieuwe project Spectres (geesten) een documentaire langspeelfilm (104 min) die één van de zwartste pagina's uit de periode van de dekolonisatie van Belgisch Congo behandelt: de moord op Patrice Lumumba. In Spectres is de verhaallijn opgebouwd als een omzwerving, een zoektocht. Het hoofdpersonage is ridder Jacques Brassinne de la Buissière, een voormalige hoge functionaris en hoofdrolspeler in de politiek-humanitaire thriller die de dekolonisatie was. Hij treedt op als gids en symboolfiguur en laat zijn thesissen, die hij gedurende 30 jaar ontwikkelde over de ware toedracht van de feiten, aan bod komen tijdens de ontmoetingen en herdenkingen met de laatste overlevende betrokkenen en familieleden van de hoofdrolspelers. Naast de film worden ook nog andere werken getoond die tijdens Augustijnens' zoektocht ontstaan zijn, waaronder publicaties, foto's, sculpturen, originele documenten.

Pour l’ouverture du Kunstenfestivaldesarts, WIELS présente le nouveau projet de l'artiste belge Sven Augustijnen, autour de son long-métrage intitulé Spectres (104 min). Augustijnen fut remarqué au niveau national et international par ses films dont les sujets décrivent la spécificité culturelle de lieux connus, comme celui sur le Parc Royal de Bruxelles ou encore celui sur le quartier du Mont des Arts à Bruxelles. Réputé subtil chroniqueur de Bruxelles, Augustijnen établit ici un lien entre la capitale administrative européenne et son passé colonial. Cet essai de film documentaire évoque en effet une des pages les plus sombres de la période de décolonisation du Congo belge : l’assassinat de Patrice Lumumba, le premier Premier Ministre élu démocratiquement au Congo.
Outre le film, l’exposition présente différents objets qui proviennent des archives personnelles de Brassinne : des photographies des années ’60 et ’80 de diverses expéditions vers les 'véritables' endroits d’exécution, des objets historiques et des fragments sonores. Une importante publication avec des documents de référence, des photos et des textes explicatifs accompagne l'exposition.

My first!!!! Read about the phenomenon but never seen one until now. This was a real wow for me. The picture is not good, but the wow still takes hold of me. (seen nearing the summit of Hobcarton Crag)
