Canadian singer-songwriter, Gordon Lightfoot died last week. I decided to make a Spotify playlist of his songs and discovered that one of the songs on this album is about a Persian cat. I've listened to it innumerable times and always assumed "Daylight Katy" was a woman. Lightfoot was a special and talented man who leaves behind a legacy of wonderful music!

Hej, da bin ich wieder! Nach unserem verregneten Sommerurlaub wollten wir doch noch einen kleinen besonderen Urlaub machen. Auf unserer To-Do -Liste steht schon seit Jahren Ägypten und so entschieden wir, uns in dieses Abenteuer zu werfen. Diese Reise entfaltete sich als unvergessliche Erfahrung. Nach drei Tagen in Hurghada brachen wir nach Luxor auf. Von dort aus setzten wir unsere Reise auf einem Schiff fort, das gemächlich den Nil entlang nach Assuan tuckerte. In Assuan erwartete uns ein ganz besonderes Erlebnis: die Fahrt auf einer traditionellen Feluke. Als der Kapitän meinem Mann das Steuer überreichte, leuchteten seine Augen vor Freude. Unter der strahlenden Sonne glitten wir sanft über den majestätischen Nil, während die Welt um uns herum still zu stehen schien. Die Sonne brach sich in glitzernden Reflexionen auf der Wasseroberfläche, während wir uns langsam der Insel Elephantine näherten. Vogelrufe erfüllten die Luft, Reiher, Kormorane und kleine Wasserhühner ließen ihr Gefieder in der Sonne trocknen.
Im Hintergrund seht ihr das Mausoleum des Aga Khan. Es ist ein architektonisches Juwel, das auf einem Hügel in der Nähe von Assuan thront. Es ist die letzte Ruhestätte des Aga Khan III. Dieses Mausoleum, das oft als "Taj Mahal des Nahen Ostens" bezeichnet wird, fasziniert mit seiner eleganten Architektur und seiner friedvollen Lage.

Yesterday, April 4, 2023, Union Pacific ran a business special over the Moffat Tunnel Subdivision from Denver to Provo, Utah. Symboled P-NYPV, the 9-car train is shown at mile 14.5 between Leyden and Rocky, Colorado, amidst moderate snow and stiff winds. My oldest graduated from high school. An hour before I was supposed to arrive to her graduation ceremony, I slipped and fell face first on the sidewalk in front of my home. I was in pain and a little disoriented, but I knew that I didn't want to miss another event in her life. Because this was such an important day, I ignored my fresh physical injuries and made it just in time.
Note: I found out later that as a result from my fall, I had suffered a concussion. Oh well! At least after missing eighteen years of events, I was able to be there for her on this special milestone. :)
An ordinary day turns into a special one if I can see you.

Conway Scenic 252 leads a special through the Gateway at Crawford Notch. The special originated at North Conway and traversed the old Maine Central Mountain Division through Fabyan and over the rarely used portion of the line to Whitefield. At Whitefield, the train crossed the diamond stopped for photos at the ball signal.
A South Shore special returning from a groundbreaking ceremony of the West Lake corridor heads north through Munster, IN.

Monument Special Children - Location: Leeuwarden
The monument for Special Children was unveiled on 18 September 2005 at the Noorderbegraafplaats in Leeuwarden. It is a monument for children who were born prematurely and who died young, which was put in the anonymity before.
Before the decorations are due to come down, there is time for just another view of the SVR during its festive services.
The light is fading as ex-GWR Manor No. 7812 `Erlestoke Manor' slowly enters Bewdley to await a clear path to Arley with another load of passengers eager to see Santa.

Královec - the border station, which normally serves only one train from/to Sędzisław, came alive a little more on that day afternoon thanks to a special transport. Locomotive 749 251-5, which arrived here loosely from Trutnov, took the track machines to Teplice nad Metují, where they worked on track repairs. In the photo, the machines can be seen in the distance, at the time the photo was taken they were entering from the direction of Kamienna Góra. "Bardotka" is a nice change at this somewhat forgotten station, where every day you can only meet a vehicle of the 810 series from GWR

Královec - stacja graniczna, która na co dzień obsługuje tylko jednego "Motoraczka" z/do Sędzisławia poniedziałkowego popołudnia ożyła trochę bardziej za sprawą specjalnego transportu. Lokomotywa 749 251-5, która przyjechała tu luzem z Trutnova zabrała maszyny torowe do miejscowości Teplice nad Metují, gdzie pracowały przy remoncie torów. Na zdjęciu maszyny widać w oddali, w momencie wykonania zdjęcia akurat wjeżdżały od strony Kamiennej Góry. "Bardotka" to miła odmiana na tej trochę zapomnianej stacji, na której każdego dnia można tylko spotkać pojazd serii 810 firmy GWR
Today I unpacked photos and special memorabilia I have saved for future generations. The pretty little embroidered organza dress on the left is my dedication dress. According to the picture, I was about 6 months old. I think the dress is so beautiful and I'm so glad that my mother saved it for me.
The dress that is spread under the pictures is my wedding dress and that is the top layer of my tulle veil that is draped over my wedding portrait. The dress and veil have turned yellow with age and I doubt that any of the young ladies in my family will ever want to wear it, but they will treasure it for what it is.
My bridal portrait was taken by a neighbor who was a professional photographer and it was featured on the front page of the special "June Brides" edition of my local newspaper. That made us both feel pretty special ;) I made the frame out of antique buttons that belonged to my maternal grandmother.

Nothing special... just show a full moon. Powerful, majestic, and mystical.
The full moon used to be a sign of upheaval. Today, it's merely a backdrop for a world that never rests anyway.
People can't sleep, not because the moon keeps them awake, but because their thoughts are too loud. Pressure to perform, existential anxiety, the endless flood of information. A society that doesn't switch off even at night doesn't need a moon to be restless.
And yet, the full moon has something incorruptible about it. It reveals itself in all its truth, without masks, without filters. Perhaps that's why we fear it. For in its light, there's no hiding—not from it and not from ourselves.

Nichts besonderes ... zeig einfach einen Vollmond. Gewaltig, majestätisch und mystisch
Früher war der Vollmond ein Zeichen für Umbruch. Heute ist er nur noch Kulisse für eine Welt, die ohnehin nie zur Ruhe kommt.
Die Menschen schlafen nicht, nicht weil der Mond sie wach hält, sondern weil ihre Gedanken zu laut sind. Leistungsdruck, Existenzangst, die endlose Flut an Informationen. Eine Gesellschaft, die selbst bei Nacht nicht abschaltet, braucht keinen Mond, um ruhelos zu sein.
Und doch hat der Vollmond etwas Unbestechliches. Er zeigt sich in voller Wahrheit, ohne Masken, ohne Filter. Vielleicht ist das der Grund, warum wir ihn fürchten. Denn in seinem Licht gibt es kein Verstecken – nicht vor ihm und nicht vor uns selbst.

Manufactured around 1936, this camera belonged to my father-in-law and before that it belonged to his father-in-law. They both belonged to the same camera club and were very keen on photography.
The camera was very expensive when introduced, over $100. With it’s black enamelled cast metal body and elegant parallel thin metal lines the camera is a real beauty. It was designed by the graphic designer come product designer Walter Teague. The Bantam Special uses 828 roll film having a picture size similar to 35mm. Operating this camera is a joy, it has been taken care of, and built so well, that it still feels virtually new.
