Many people may argue that the street music scenes should be taken with video (which is very popular with the new generation of DSLR). Then you have the sound and motion.
I am stubborn fan of still images. I think I can listen to the street sound of silence in a still picture. And I don’t even need the colours.
What do you think?
Happy Friday and great weekend!
This is the scene taken on Italian Day at Commercial Drive last Sunday.
Tristesse is playing as I come to this shot. Just goes like peaches and cream. Chopin, Etude in E, Op 10/3. Looking out from Oran na Mara over the Sound of Mull, Ardnamurchan, Scotland. Similar to one I have already posted but this is a bit closer in.
Sorry friends, this period I've fallen for leaves :)
It is winter in Sydney now and it was cold that morning.

In restless dreams I walked alone, narrow streets of cobblestone
Neath the halo of a streetlamp, I turned my collar to the cold and damp
When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light, split the night
And touched the sound of silence

How many of us have sat alone in a crowded restaurant or cafe and felt like this ?
"The Sound of Silence" is a song by singer-songwriter duo Simon & Garfunkel. Written in February 1964 by Paul Simon in the aftermath of the 1963 assassination of John F. Kennedy, the song propelled the group to mainstream popularity. An initial version preferred by the band was remixed and sweetened, and has become known as "the quintessential folk rock release". In the U.S., it was the duo's second most popular hit after "Bridge Over Troubled Water".
"Hello darkness, my old friend
I've come to talk with you again
Because a vision softly creeping
Left its seeds while I was sleeping
And the vision that was planted in my brain
Still remains
Within the sound of silence "
I have one Pomegranate tree or bush that I planted, and a number that the birds started... The trees in our gardens do make beautiful and delicious fruit... They are hardy here in Tucson, even though the top branches of the more exposed trees are killed back each year by frost. The flowers are gorgeous!

Foxes and Pepper performing the 1960s hit by Simon and Garfunkle.
I had to remove the first few seconds due a a noisy person who walked in front of my camera, but I got most of the performance.

The skill in playing an Aeolian Zither lies in imbuing the listener's mind with the same tune as in the head of the performer.
Sometimes you are sad. You may not be able to point out a single incident or even a number of incidents that are making you sad. They may have some effects but you know they should not make you as sad as you are. You are just sad. Stop looking for the reasons. Indulged in it for a while. A sad movie, a sad story or a sentimental song. Or a chat with an old friend, a long walk in the park, an evening by the sea. Do whatever works for you. Sadness prepare us for happier times. Just don't lay on It for too long. It may get so comfortable that you would not want to get up again.

"I was created to re-unite with You:
To suffer terrible blindness
until these eyes are soaked in You alone
everywhere …and ever nowhere
To endure the prolonged agony of deafness
until all of Creation echoes triumphantly
with inexplicable Silence through me
To agonize bitterly without smell and taste
until your Fragrance excites a strange blossoming
rolling the Nectar of Life ever sweetly across my tongue
To be torturously paralyzed without a voice
until an unbearable urge bursts open
Intensified by every inward outward breath
Expression dances with abandon
while the ecstatic heart wildly pounds out a rhythm:
Joy explodes uninhibited out of this burning body
What was a dark ache of longing
becomes rapturous discovering
A crash of wave against wave
in an ocean of increasing Awareness
A Peace-bringer disappears only to reappear
as the Great unending Song of Life plays on"

Hello darkness my old friend - I've come to talk with you again.
Sleepless nights. Restless days. Love, support and caring. Decisions. Waiting.
Hello darkness, my old friend,
Ive come to talk with you again,
Because a vision softly creeping,
Left its seeds while I was sleeping,
And the vision that was planted in my brain
Still remains
Within the sound of silence.
In restless dreams I walked alone
Narrow streets of cobblestone,
neath the halo of a street lamp,
I turned my collar to the cold and damp
When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of
A neon light
That split the night
And touched the sound of silence.
And in the naked light I saw
Ten thousand people, maybe more.
People talking without speaking,
People hearing without listening,
People writing songs that voices never share
And no one deared
Disturb the sound of silence.
Fools said i,you do not know
Silence like a cancer grows.
Hear my words that I might teach you,
Take my arms that I might reach you.
But my words like silent raindrops fell,
And echoed
In the wells of silence
And the people bowed and prayed
To the neon God they made.
And the sign flashed out its warning,
In the words that it was forming.
And the signs said, the words of the prophets
Are written on the subway walls
And tenement halls.
And whisperd in the sounds of silence.
~ Simon and Garfunkel
