King's Lynn Nature Reserve (Norfolk) is a place full of charm, natural beauty, and calm serenity. Don't Speak! No one else is! We're all listening to the tweets and squawks in the underbrush and way up in the sky. We're sensing the movements and the watchful gaze of the bunnies hiding by.

This image was captured whilst resting at the water's edge before a heavy storm approached which, cast the most amazing atmospheric light and dark contrast between the milk thistles, and created jewels on the water's surface.

Besides the glorious colours that Lady Autumn brings with her, what I look forward too in the fall are foggy mornings, which we get because of the big gap between day time and night time temperatures. That morning was one of them and I was able to capture this image before the sun burnt off the fog. If you look closely, you can distinguish some trees just below the sun. But don't look too long or you'll damage your eyes!!!

A zen moment of peace while focusing on the sound of silence.
That also ties in for song title #42/100 The Sound of Silence.
We all know the original by Simon & Garfunkel but this version by heavy metal band Disturbed is just so good. I'm a big fan of Disturbed but missed out on seeing them when they came to Albuquerque. Maybe next time..

After a hard days "chugging" who wouldn't enjoy a evenings "lay over" at a spot like this...the only sounds to be heard are those of House Martins darting playfully over the waters of the canal and the distant sound of the occasional car passing down a country lane...even the distant windmills were not moving..."Dear!!!...Crack open the Wine...we're stopping here the night."

SOUND OF SILENCE – DISTURBED
Happy Hallowe'en Bryan : 0)
KUBRICK'S AXE
He drives in silence in his car
unaware that he's a ghost
on Halloween he dons a sheet
sends invitations in the post
they travel at the speed of light
landing on the doormats
of anyone he wishes to join him
at his party in the churchyard crypt
he drinks red wine and eats his fill
complains it goes straight through him
how many bottles must he drink
to be as merry as his friends
he wonders why he's stone cold sober
he wants to joke and dance real wild
he may as well be drinking water
the alcohol effects appear so mild
and why can he walk through bricks and mortar
no-one told him that he'd passed
he starts to ask questions of his guests
why nothing seems to last
his voice is no more than a hollow sound
as he begins to ask them why
then suddenly it dawns on him
why his bones are feeling dry
the sound of silence deafens him
as he asks them while they're dining
he lifts the sheet and underneath
he'd been struck with the axe from The Shining
they hadn't known why they only heard
from him only once a year
but now they knew and so did he
when he saw their eyes full of fear
but it's ok because they didn't run far
and they told him how they felt
if they could only see him on Halloween
they'd rather that than nowt
So they danced and sang and drank some more
in the candlelit crypt to the max
and he was content and so were they
I wonder if Kubrick ever missed his axe?

View of the San Juan Islands from a ferry boat in the beautiful state of Washington. Not sure if The San Juans are officially part of Puget Sound but it sure helped me formulate the title!
San Juan Islands
Archipelago in Washington
wake up
greet the new day
sing with the birds
say Namasté
smell the morning air
jump up, jump down
fog slowly set the guardian free
dont wait, play the game
and be light as a feather
take the ride on the new day's spiral
what's around next corner doesn't matter
make a new mind bubble
the night is over
and it's allright
pin it on the wall
you dont need matches
to make a flame light
you can do it all ...
disturb the sound of silence
wake up

~HSS~ all have a great new week!
I used Nik Collection for a slightly better color glow!
Found this in my archives, a colder, foggy morning in April
Sometimes I am just speechless about something I see!just standing and listening to the sound of silence!
I've come to talk with you again ...
... within the sound of silence
I just love the times of the year when the fog rises in the evening, to the next day when the sun rises and warms the landscape, and everything looks wet-ish :-)
Thanks for taking the time and looking at my photo, I really appreciate it!
St Mary's Loch - Touched By Silence
A very cold morning on St Mary's Loch, a couple of fishermen in their usual early morning spots, within minutes they are surrounded by mist. As the mist rolled over the loch, not a sound could be heard.
This one was with the longer lens for a change for me, using the 70-200mm f4 lens.

.................I'll be coming to talk with you again :)
One from the archives of my favourite little beach in Cyprus.
Couldn't think of an adequate story to go with this image. I'm drawn back to what it means to me looking at it. All I could think about was this song. It reminds me of my older brother I guess. Perhaps because I sat alone when photographing this scene, watching the darkness envelope these beautiful mountains and wished I wasn't. It brought back memories of many a late night spent with my older brother when we were teens. I took great comfort and trust in our conversations, his advice and opinion. We talked about everything under the sun and I remember many times sitting together and watching the stars rise high in the skies like a million tiny lanterns. It was my brother who also showed me this song before he left for boot camp. Since then we've both grown up and moved to different states but I think of those nights often when I'm up late.
Here's to
starry skies and memories of long nights... to loved ones who were willing to sit with us in both the cover of darkness and in the beauty of light.
Thank you as always for listening to my ramblings...
xx

If you get out on the ocean
If you sail out on the sea
If you get up in the mountains
Or through every emotion .....
When the darkest winter comes
I will be with you
I'll go anywhere with you

While I love the golden shivering tops of the gorgeous aspen, I also find myself drawn to the sleek white trunk of the tree. The dark contrast of the markings against the bright white is so unique and always grabs my attention. Driving through Eagle we passed droves of groves (haha!) These were out in the middle of nowhere, you know that sound - the sound of silence?! Where you juts top what your doing and listen, because the silence is so big, is so unusual to our ears that the silence is overwhelming. In a good way! I really struggle with anxiety, I always have and it's something I still have yet to conquer. Maybe that is why I love being outdoors so much, why I love the silence so much. When I am out there away from all the distractions and noise, away from the pings of notifications on our devices and worry of day to day life. I'd love to live out in the mountains someday - I'd probably become a hermit and disappear from society ha! Not really, because I'm a complex creature and after I've had my bout of silence and solitude, I find myself craving companionship and human contact. Maybe that's notcomplex, maybe that's normal - who knows... When I see the this picture I'm transported back to that big overwhelming silence and it brings me so much peace. I hope it does a little bit of the same thing to you!
love always, Rachel
