It's a wet, rainy, cold, dreary day outside. So I decided to try something different with my light box and a Spanish Spice pepper that I grew.

...this way comes.

I remember, as a child, the worse thing that my parents could say to me when I was scared at night and couldn't sleep, was "there's no such thing as ghosts." It was like an invitation for the ghosts (that were clearly listening), to prove them wrong.

„Wir lassen etwas von uns zurück, wenn wir einen Ort verlassen, wir bleiben dort, obgleich wir wegfahren. Und es gibt Dinge an uns, die wir nur dadurch wiederfinden können, daß wir dorthin zurückkehren.“

"We leave something of ourselves behind when we leave a place, we stay there even though we are travelling away. And there are things about us that we can only find again by returning there."

It's always something. I just never know what.

There was something interesting that day in one of the canals in Venice.

There is something very appealing about a lone, old, wooden building sitting in the middle of a farm field on the wide open prairie.

On Friday, I had not long got into work when Phill rang to say that Kaiser was very distressed and had huge amounts of drool coming out of his mouth. When I got home he had run outside onto the lean to roof and there was lots of drool still coming out of his mouth. It took an age to coax him down but eventually I managed. I rang the vet and got an emergency appointment, but not until 11.00am. The drooling had subsided a little but he was still very distressed. The vet check him out and said that although his teeth were in good shape, he flinched when she touched one of them. She said that he might have banged it against something (perhaps Pixie thumped him!) Or it could have been he ate something that was mildly corrosive. He was given a painkilling injection and some Loxicom which he absolutely loves. He seems totally recovered now and we are keeping an eye on him for any changes. The vet advised to take him back in a week or two if nothing changes and they will check him out again. It gave us such a fright. I have had Kaiser from 6 weeks old. He is now 13 and has never been ill. Oh his weight is back up to 7 kilos *sigh*

For 121 Pictures in 2021 #92 "Something that makes a sound", this is a plastic recorder. I once wanted to learn how to play this instrument but didn't make it very far. This thing does make sounds, but in my hands those sounds cannot be considered music. :(

Something a little bit different for me. The Landscape work just didn't go as hoped today so, luckily for me, my spotter saw this and suggested I took a shot of it.

Since it was so cold I really couldn't be bothered to faff around with tripods and the like so it stayed on the rucksack and, almost unbelievably, this is taken hand held at 270mm ( on a crop sensor no less!) got lucky again :o)

round and round and round she went, highlighting her blue!

Something to close out the night: this doe was waay down the trail at the wetlands - where we were heading. But she wasn't skittish like they usually are ... watching us as I got a series of shots. I'll post a shot of her deciding to - high-tail it out of there - another evening. North Georgia, August

Or maybe there's nothing to hang.

And perhaps you'll find something more interesting here...

Something strange happened...

I find there's something relaxing on the eye when we keep the colour palette simple. Colours really can elicit emotional responses.

Just as taking the noises away rests my ears, so minimizing the colours can rest my eyes … and hopefully my mind too!

This alley could be in any major city. Detroit, Los Angeles, New York...the alleys all pretty much look the same. But I wouldn't have shot them.

I can't imagine having the comfort level I have walking the quiet alleyways like I do here. It really is a "there's no place like home" sense of security. It doesn't mean you let your guard down or be blind to the potential hazards. But you just have a better feel for your environment.

As refreshing as it is to go someplace new to re-energize, there's something to be said for the same old same old, too.

And for something different… This young fellow was more than happy to get its photo taken! At the Jardin Public of Bordeaux, created in 1746.
