Shortly after the street celebration, and following dinner in North Beach, consequently behind Alena's going to Chicago party at Dragon Bar on Broadway, I was summoned to photograph a fashion show at Paradise Lounge where foxy girls wore fur coats and buffed dudes wore $1400 jeans. James, his fiance, Tiffany, and their friend - I don't know her name but she worked it. Tiff worked it straight sex, with her fur coat falling to the floor at the end of the catwalk, she stunned the crowd, and if I only I caught James expression, with his jaws dropped to the floor and his hands to his temples as in "HOLY SH*T, THAT'S MY GIRL."

After the parts transplant. This bike is dreamy to ride, and I really like the accidental black and silver color scheme.
Pretty recognisable if a little crude model of the Pontiac Firebird by Soma dating from the 1990's. Soma continue to make diecast toys though there doesn't appear to be any sign of their once extensive 1/64 range on their website so perhaps they are no longer in production. Part of a 30 vehicle set. Mint and boxed.

The famous Backwaters in Kerala, South India are water bodies formed by the backward flow of seawater due to an obstruction in the natural current.
Kerala backwaters are blessed with immense beauty and provides for a relaxing atmosphere. The ecosystem of the backwaters combines that of freshwater as well as that of the sea. It supports a large variety of flora and fauna such as frogs, fishes, crabs, mudskippers, otters etc. Along the length of the backwaters, one could see a close up of life in rural Kerala.
The idyllic Soma Kuttanad Resort is the place to see the backwaters in all its glory. Here, by the pristine beauty of the emerald green waters of the waterways, rejuvenate your body and soul with authentic Ayurveda and Yoga.
The waterfront property of the resort is located in Alleppey which is also known as the Venice of the east for its famed backwaters. One can explore the magical region on houseboats which pamper you with exotic food and luxury. Laid back, the resort has independent villas and well appointed rooms.
Although probably viewed as being a bit crude for most collectors I do love collecting cheap Chinese diecasts, especially the ones which although are unlicensed still look very much like the real vehicles they are based on. Soma is one such manufacturer who produced quite a large range of 1/64 models, usually available in multi vehicle sets and some even sold under the Realtoy name. This Mercedes-Benz SL is probably no worse than say an equivalent Zylmex or Corgi from the period. Part of a 30 vehicle set. Mint and boxed.
There are too many horses in the stable so this lovely Soma has to go. She is set up as a cyclocross rig at the moment, but is fully equipped with enough eyelets that several racks will not be a problem and then you have a reliable and trusty touring bike.

Just about recognisable as a 1970's Chevrolet Camaro is this model by Soma. Pretty crude by anyones standard and certainly cruder than a lot of Somas own efforts! Realtoy used a few of Somas castings in their early days but certainly not this one!
Admittedly its probably no worse than what a lot of Chinese toy makers were selling at the time and flooding markets with. Part of a Hills branded 30 vehicle set. Mint and boxed.

In 2003 Cynthia Leung and David Castellan were bitten by the cacao bug and the concept of Soma chocolatemaker was born. The idea was to make great microbatch chocolate from the cacao bean and create a little world to explore and share the possibilities of chocolate. Their first space was a tiny area in the back of a defunct whisky denaturing building in the Distillery District. Armed with some vintage chocolate making gear and a whole lot of gumption they began their journey. A line of microbatch chocolate, truffles, cookies, hot chocolate and gelato soon emerged.
Fast forward to 2014- They have since moved out that beloved little space, have two shop locations and a small cacao bean factory where they clean, roast, winnow, & conch cacao beans into chocolate. Cynthia and David employ in her words ” a small group of funky and creative souls who have a blast exploring new ways to enjoy chocolate”. I would also add they are a very talented group of souls.
A visit to SOMA triggers each of our senses; the air is filled with the sweet scent of cocao, our sense of taste is led to experiment and our eye is entertained. Trained as an architect, Cynthia is in charge of the visual and does not disappoint. Their delicious SOMA birch, modeled on a branch found in her father’s backyard is a thing of beauty. With Easter just around the corner, they will be offering a limited edition of Easter eggs. Only 200 are made each year; a beautiful and exquisite gift for someone very special.
My visit ended with a shot of hocho enroute. An intense, spicy and thick beverage served like an espresso. Cynthia tells me the spicy edge pays homage to the Mayan roots of chocolate.
If you love chocolate the way I do I strongly recommend popping in to SOMA chocolatemaker at the Distillery for a hocho enroute or a milky hot chocolate to take with you to the Leslieville Flea. Chocolate and vintage…..what could be better?
See you at the next Leslieville Flea, March 16th from 10-5pm at the Fermenting cellar, 28 Distillery lane

We started with the bare frame, and it went together fairly seamlessly. The trickiest part was installing the fenders, but even that wasn’t too bad. Rides like a dream. Smooth, relaxed, but handles very well and is actually quite fast. The drivetrain all works flawlessly, and the bar ends are actually quite nice after using STI’s for so long. Absolutely love the Nitto Albatross bars. And these tires are incredible, the smoothest fastest rolling tires I’ve used to date! My dad chose every single part, so it is truly HIS bike!
