I've said it once and will say it again: trucks are cool!

If you are wondering wtf I am doing with these re-issues, now that these are no longer 'news' items, I am re-interpreting them in black and white, which is my personal preference.

Found typography. Actually it's City Waste Management or something like that. More wonderful finds in the dumpster!

Rainbow Teddy (RT) got super psyched this morning because @galexks sent some friends on Instagram for him to meet [1].

“These teddies are so cute. I wonder where they’re at. I want to meet them!” RT said. “I am bored to death being stuck with the social-phobe SML all the time. I _definitely_ need a social life.”

Ok, RT I will fly you on FedEx to meet some new people. For now just be patient. SML is working on the logistics for your first-class airfare right now.

The work by masters are easily observed by their decisive and reductive brush strokes. You don’t need the excessive marks to illustrate your intention.

Titled “Femme et oiseaux” or “Woman and birds” in English, Spanish painter Joan Miró painted this when he was 73 (1966), which is arguably the late stage of an artist’s life.

Miró’s flat and organic forms accented with color planes are a signature style of his paintings. He is generally considered a surrealist, though his work is very different than other surrealist artists like Dali. His abstract forms show some influence from Picasso, though his use of primary colors are unique.

He is one of my favorite artists of all times. Great works are simply that—great. It matters not whether they are popular or not.

# Joan Miró

Joan Miró i Ferrà (Catalan pronunciation: [ʒuˈam miˈɾo]) (April 20, 1893 – December 25, 1983) was a Spanish painter, sculptor, and ceramicist born in Barcelona. A museum dedicated to his work, the Fundació Joan Miró, was established in his native city in 1975.

Earning international acclaim, his work has been interpreted as Surrealism, a sandbox for the subconscious mind, a re-creation of the childlike, and a manifestation of Catalan pride. In numerous interviews dating from the 1930s onwards, Miró expressed contempt for conventional painting methods as a way of supporting bourgeois society, and famously declared an "assassination of painting" in favour of upsetting the visual elements of established painting.

I spent five days in Helsinki at the end of my month of Europe. I went there, mostly, to see a show of Alexander Aristoteles — someone I met originally from LinkedIn, randomly, because I responded to an equally random post.

Titled “Conversational Semi-Self Portrait,” this show / performance art / idk-what-to-call this is a “thing” where you would sit with Alex to have a conversation on the streets of Helsinki. At the end of it, Alex sets up his analog camera on a tripod in front of you, give you the remote release, and let you take a self portrait of yourself.

I arrived at Narinkkatori Square around 5pm on August 14, 2024 — during the Helsinki Night of the Arts. I saw that Alex already had everything setup, and was talking to a man. I waited patiently and took a few photos while they talked to each other. There was a line.

Alex saw me, and told me that very sadly, his camera was malfunctioning, and must thus end the show early.

“Would you still like to chat anyway?” He asked. I said, “Of course. This sounds like fun.” I offered to let him use my camera to take my photo at the end of our chat.

“But you must press the button. Do you have a remote?” Why, of course I do. The brilliance of modern digital camera is that I could use my phone as a remote. No more release cable, baby!

He reminded me that I could only take ONE photo. One. The age of digital photography meant that one is so hard. I took it. I completed the event as a participant. I processed the photo.

We talked about many things — things that I probably should never write about. I have always enjoyed our conversations. They are always very real.

I tend to avoid talking to people because I tend to say what I think without edits. I learned that I really shouldn’t be doing a lot of that — the right to say anything is sometimes highly discouraged by my logical brain.

Alex would always tell me to just say what I want to say — it’s almost like a dare. It’s hard to believe that when we met for his “thing” that night in Helsinki, it was only the second time I saw him in person. We did have extensive chats on various apps. He is one of the people who have been on the receiving end of my essay-length messages — but who actually read it and answered. I don’t know if you know how rare that is.

Fun with reflection: I wanted to capture these kids walking to school but they were really weary of my camera, so I snapped this through the reflection of a window, creating interesting collage of forms at the same time.

Silas Seandel sells fine sculptured furniture, and their storefront is a sculpture in its own right.

“Rainbow Teddy photographs 寧 Serenity”

Left. Utilizing the iPad as a large format view camera in the digital age, Rainbow Teddy positions the life-sized camera in front of his body and fiddles with the built-in camera app to photograph the beautiful scenery outside the windows of SML Universe.

Right. Recognizing that #Crazyisgood, Rainbow Teddy ordered his iPad from the Apple Store online mainly because it provides free engraving to every purchase.

I think that Aaron is trying to tell me something by sticking his face within the frame of this sculpture.

Basically I ultimately realize as usual that if I intend to show just one part, there's no reason to photograph the whole shebang: www.flickr.com/photos/seeminglee/4455002111/sizes/o/ :)

Technically speaking this is upside down (see Prison in A) but it feels better this way to me...
