I got some cameras that shoot in unusual formats lately, starting with 127 (4x4 cm negs on roll film that is similar to 120, but less wide and with much thinner spools.
My usual lab doesn't do 127, and I found another one that does, but they don't do scans in that format.
I used to have a good HP scanner, but that requires Windows 10, and I had to change my computer recently; the new one runs Windows 11 and there is no driver for the old scanner. I was stupid and got a cheap new scanner with the computer because I thought that I would mainly have to scan printed documents.
The new scanner doesn't scan negs or slides, which the old one did very well. So, to cut a long story short, I got a device called "digitaLIZA+" from lomography .com. This essentially is just a small LED-lit light table onto which you can place a neg or a slide, cover it with a mask in the format you need (120, 127, 135 or 110) and then "scan" the image, either with a smart phone or with a proper digital camera, which you would have to mount facing downwards.
I was lazy and tried scanning a 120 format colour neg with the smart phone, and this is what came out. See the proper lab scan of the image below. The smartphone scan doesn't really do the photo justice.
Those colours ... :-(
It might be OK for black & white negatives, but it's better to use a real camera. The long and short of it that the digitaLIZA+ device works just fine, after a fashion, but you shouldn't be using a smart phone. Ideally, use a proper scanner.
Grazie."
I love street photography, which is why I often photograph in public places where people appear. In most cases I don't ask permission to photograph because I would probably change the images I try to get. These photos always obey a cultural, aesthetic, artistic and / or documentary intent and in no case are they intended to show anyone a situation that could damage their image, threaten their dignity or obtain an economic benefit. All this does not mean at all that I don't care about the people that appear in my images, so if you recognize yourself in one of my photographs and it annoys you, you just have to let me know and I will immediately withdraw it. Similarly if you want a copy of your image on paper or in a format that allows you to print it yourself, of course it is yours. Thanks."
