The instances that second marriage move are base respects of thrift, but none of love: a second time I kill my husband dead, when second husband kisses me in bed.

An exception to the male and military occupation of the front seats was the lady from the Indonesian Red Cross. It was the Red Cross as it happens, rather than the Red Crescent. Historically, Hindu Bali had rather at times unfriendly relations with the Muslim majority Islands to its east and west. Perhaps a Red Cross was more palatable therefore than a Red Crescent?
The lady was very friendly once away from the generals. She marched up to me smiling hugely and shook my hand. We struggled to communicate verbally but had little difficulty generating good will through gesture and the few words we had in common.

The Deputy Governor delivered a short speech of acknowledging our visit and mission. I assume he was quite happy to us us, going by the smile on I Gde's face. I caught a few words but my basic, conversational Indonesian was not up to comprehending the speech. The Indonesian of the market place is an easily mastered language. Its more refined versions can be quite complex however. Root words attract seemingly endless numbers of prefixes and suffixes that subtly or substantially change the meaning of the word. 'Team penyelamat pantai' means 'beach rescue squad'. 'Selemat' which can mean 'safe' among other things becomes 'rescue' when the prefix 'peny' is added to give 'penyelamat'.
