Whilst the speechmaking went on we sat in front of the wall like exhibits in a criminal trial. We were decked out in our club colours and looked thoroughly professional. It was good that we looked the part, because we were still grappling with the enormity of the task ahead. We had twice the number of trainees than we expected, and worse yet, had few words in common with them. Teaching the intricacies of rescue and resuscitation demands good communication. We would absorb Indonesian rapidly -- and the trainees would absorb English as rapidly -- or we were all sunk.
