There are quite a large number of feral rabbits on the west side of Sidney. People love feeding them, even though it is against the law and comes with a stiff $2000 fine.

A year ago, I walked over to one of their favourite spots after a heavy snow to have some fun.

Medium-sized songbird with long pinkish bill and red eye. Olive-green above, pale below, with dark streaks on chest and belly. Juvenile and immature browner, with grayish bills. Green Oriole is green and yellow below. Female Australasian Figbird is browner, with shorter bill and bare skin around eyes. Resident in northern Australia and New Guinea, summer migrant to southeastern Australia. Inhabits many sorts of woodlands, foraging singly or in pairs, singing frequently, a clear, tuneful “orri-orri-orriole.” (eBird

Even though we had been on the official birding tour for a few days, we had come across a number of these beautiful orioles, along with their close cousins, the Green Oriole. They had proved (and continued) to be difficult to photograph because of the ability to blend right into the leaves. This one granted me two photos before vanishing.

From time to time we need to view an image like this to put us in the overall Nature's context. The minuscule humans facing the Forces of Nature there, are like ants (please enlarge the image to see them on the edge of the cliff). Their presence provides scale to what you are looking at. The sheer size of the scene is tremendous.

Aldeyjarfoss (the waterfall) is certainly a beautiful sight but there are other beautiful views there, as this image shows. I invite you to take a look and see the details of the amazing basalt columns that follow the river after the waterfall. Nature at its best! To think that volcanic action and the passing of time created this marvel is awesome!

Happy Macro Monday everyone!!!

Stonechats are robin sized birds. Males have striking black heads with white around the side of their neck, orange-red breasts and a mottled brown back. Females lack the male's black head, but have brown backs and an orange tinge to their chests. Birds are frequently seen flicking their wings while perched, often doing so on the tops of low bushes. As its name suggests, birds utter a sharp loud call that sound like two stones being tapped together. They breed in western and southern parts of the UK, but disperse more widely in winter. What they eat: Invertebrates, seeds and fruit (e.g. blackberries).

The Australian magpie (Gymnorhina tibicen) is a medium-sized black and white passerine bird native to Australia and southern New Guinea. Although once considered to be three separate species, it is now considered to be one, with nine recognised subspecies. A member of the Artamidae, the Australian magpie is placed in its own genus and is most closely related to the black butcherbird (Melloria quoyi). Currawongs have yellow eyes, whereas Magpies have red-brown eyes and Butcherbirds have very dark brown, almost black eyes. It is not, however, closely related to the European magpie, which is a corvid. The adult Australian magpie is a fairly robust bird ranging from 37 to 43 cm in length, with distinctive black and white plumage, gold brown eyes and a solid wedge-shaped bluish-white and black bill. The male and female are similar in appearance, and can be distinguished by differences in back markings. The male has pure white feathers on the back of the head and the female has white blending to grey feathers on the back of the head. With its long legs, the Australian magpie walks rather than waddles or hops and spends much time on the ground. Described as one of Australia's most accomplished songbirds, the Australian magpie has an array of complex vocalisations. It is omnivorous, with the bulk of its varied diet made up of invertebrates. It is generally sedentary and territorial throughout its range. Common and widespread, it has adapted well to human habitation and is a familiar bird of parks, gardens and farmland in Australia and New Guinea. This species is commonly fed by households around the country, but in spring (and occasionally in autumn) a small minority of breeding magpies (almost always males) become aggressive and swoop and attack those who approach their nests. 6966

This was taken in White Sands National Park, New Mexico. At 275 square miles it is the largest gypsum sand desert in the world. I was reflecting on the magnitude of the landscape when I looked down and saw the beetle.

Size really is a relative concept.

Partially unwrapped, and with one bite gone, it's a Milky Way "fun size" bar. Consisting of nougat topped with caramel and covered with milk chocolate, each bar weighs just 17 grams and measures two inches in length.

Lady Bug-Bird,taking up all of this Flower Hear.

Taking this shot personal safety never crossed my mind

And why should it?

But imagine if mother nature had played her cards differently...

Making this brute of a bird twice it's size and us humans half our size!

It'd make this a truly terrifying sight

No matter the size of whoever tries to get close, this little teal protects its companion, a duck at all times...

It's the most beautiful thing to see LOL

Não importa o tamanho de quem tenta se aproximar, esse pequeno marreco protege sua companheira, uma pata o tempo todo...

É a coisa mais linda de se ver LOL

You can't have too many wooden spoons. Actually I've noticed that there are several different sizes in this image. The spoon tidy's and the baking packages. Well there you go.

The Red-winged Blackbirds at Font Hill are quite the aggressive toward the Great Blue Herons. I know the Herons will eat their chicks. It's still amazing to watch them attack such a larger bird.

A winter day near my home.

While outside watering plants in the backyard a couple of days ago, I noticed this large Grasshopper that was sprayed with water and jumped on the bricks of our house for safety. I went to get my camera and take some macro images of this Texas sized Grasshopper. I must say the details on this Grasshopper are Awesome and if you look close enough you will see the water drop. Hope Y'all like it.Lol:Gaston (aka Gasssman)

Thanks for all your wonderful support on my work in Photography,

Please view in large / original size for extreme details of this Texas sized Grasshopper,

Actually if you look closely there are 5, counting the 2 lifeboats by the cruise ship. There is a tour excursion boat in the foreground, a tender lifeboat on the right, and the Royal Princess. If you take a good look at the Royal Princess you will see that a movie is being shown on the big screen on the pool deck.

Canadian Geese flying over Wildwing Lake.

Two sizes of Canadian Geese exist. A small 22 to 26 inch and a large 35-45 inch version. They have a brownish body with a black head, long blackneck and which cheeck patch. The smaller version has a shorter neck and lacks the cheeck patch.

They inhabit lakes, bays, rivers and marshes. They often feed in open grasslands and stubble fields.

They range from Alaska each to Baffin Island and south to California, Illinoise and Massachusetts. They winter south to northern Mexico and the Gulf Coast. Widespread as a semi-domesticated bird in city parks and on reservoirs.

Little Eagle (Hieraaetus morphnoides)

This Eagle decided to have a good look at me.

The Rufous-tailed Hummingbird is a medium-sized hummingbird. It has a distinctly rufous-colored tail, from which its named is derived, and a bright pink bill. Like other hummingbirds, it feeds on nectar and small insects. It can be highly territorial over feeding areas.

The Rufous-tailed Hummingbird is perhaps the most common species of hummingbird at forest edge and in gardens and cultivated areas from southern Mexico south to northwestern South America.
