Goes Netherlands should not be missed by anyone visiting Belgium it’s just a few extra train stops on your journey but well worth effort and your reward is seafood at its freshest, Zeeland province supplies most of the moules for Belgian bellies in their most favorite dish of mussels and fries. The older I get the more I want to be up for an early morning walkabout to see my location, if you are especially lucky you will see night turn to sunrise and soft scenes painted in golden horizontal light usually just shared only with early commuters or garbage guys. There is something so magical about exploring a place that you have never been and to try to capture the tranquil feel of having the place all to yourself if only for a fleeting hour or so.
I took this on Sept 19, 2008 with my D70s and Tamron 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 Lens at 25mm, 1/200s, f7.1 ISO 200 processed in LR, PS +Lumenzia ,Topaz, and DXO Nik

... and on to other things! My fun fact for today ... people at work are so kind to share these things with me (oh, I'm so thankful.... lol!) Owls eat the heads off of pheasants and leave the rest of the bird. This is disturbing on so many levels... first of all...owls are birds, pheasants are birds... so isn't this... kind of... cannibalism? (ewww) Owls eat brains.... kind of like zombies. Wouldn't there be a lot more tasty meat on the rest of the bird... than the head?!! (Brains must be really good) Leaving the rest of the bird is kind of wasteful, don't you think? So, that became a discussion today... and then someone tried to explain something else to me and I had to admit to them... "I'm sorry, I'm not listening.... I just can't get past the owls eating the pheasant's heads... and then I had to google it. (the rest of my work just had to wait) It's true. I guess it's not really a "fun fact", is it?... especially not for the pheasants.
But...on a lighter note... it was warm today... and the sun was out... and the sky was blue!! No grey! YEY!!

The Turkey Vultures were wing drying on the log boom along with a dozen or so others. They seemed to have difficulty deciding whether a woman in a boat with a camera was trouble or not, they returned to their wing drying and blew me off :)

I think everybody should know by now, that I don't really do macro photography, just close-ups, mostly with Legoes.
The macro abilities of my "camera" are ridiculous. This is as close as I can get, the original, uncroppped picture is still 9cm wide, 14mm more than allowed for the Macro Mondays group.
But since I assume that this is some kind of test, if those three inches (or 76mm) could be narrowed down a bit further, I decided to participate, just to show you lot that it's a big NO!
Although I wish I'd had better optics, especially for the low light conditions of north-german winter (which is dull grey with the occasional rain), I prefer having a small camera in a pouch on my belt, rather than carrying big chunks of equipment.

You wouldn't believe it, but 5 minutes prior to this was a complete blizzard. Couldn't see more than a few metres. Can't beat a good bit of weather drama.

A beautiful area to visit should you visit Bridlington. Just over six miles or so away the bay still used by fishermen and for pleasure boat rides. Sheltered by the high cliffs it is ideal for relaxation and for the kids to play on the golden beach.
When the tide is out the caves can be explored perhaps once used by smugglers.
WARNING- The access is very steep and the return is not for the unfit.

I totally didn't know it wasn't focused. We were actually holding hands, but you can't see it :/. I think i like it better this way though. Even though we look like aliens from the X-Files.
Der Rhein hat zur Zeit so wenig Wasser, dass die meisten Inseln trockenen Fußes erreicht werden können. Für u.a. den Flussregenpfeifer ist das ein Problem weil er Bodenbrüter ist und seine Brutgebiete auf diesen Inseln liegen. Nun latschen täglich dutzende Menschen, teilweise mit ihren Hunden, da mitten durch und nutzen die Inseln für ihre "Freizeitgestaltung". Ich hoffe, dass nicht zu viele Gelege zertrampelt werden. Tip: sollte jemand der Versuchung eine Insel zu betreten nicht widerstehen können, so sollte er im Außenbereich bleiben, der normalerweise überflutet ist, und nicht durch die Bereiche laufen, die bewachsen sind.
The Rhine river currently has so little water that most of the river islands can be reached on dry land. This is a problem for the little ringed plover, among others, because it is a ground breeder and its breeding area is on these islands. Now dozens of people, some with their dogs, traipse through the middle of the island every day and use it for their ‘leisure activities’. I hope that not too many clutches are trampled on.
Tip: if someone cannot resist the temptation to enter such an island, they should stay in the outside area, which is normally flooded, and not walk in the areas that are overgrown.
Cause everyone should have a safe place to keep their precious secrets...

This Green Heron just couldn’t decide: ‘Should I stay or should I go?’ He would stretch his neck up, begin to leave then compress that magical slinky neck down and relax for a few seconds before doing it again. Finally, he stretched his neck way out and took to the air. Green Herons are often amusing, chasing each other around, making strange sounds, fishing from low branches or from the air and working that magical neck. Lots of fun.
