Tiercel is a term for a male hawk and most commonly used in falconry to describe a male peregrine falcon. It is derived from the size difference between the male and female. Male peregrines are approximately 1/3rd smaller than females. Although there is some sharing of nesting duties, in a mated pair, the more sleek and agile tiercel tends to hunt more during nesting season. The female, with her added strength and bulk, spends her days watching over her brood and is possibly better equipped to fend off predators. The tiercel in this image is the mate of the falcon posted a couple of days ago and the father of the fledgling posted on July 10. This season their nest scrape was in a small cave beyond our view. But I did have a few opportunities to observe the mated pair and their lone surviving fledgling throughout the spring and early summer of 2017. It is always a privilege sharing space with these fierce and beautiful raptors. June 23, 2017

This photo was taken during an 8-hour train ride through Uzbekistan in third class, the most basic option available. Without air conditioning, the heat inside became unbearable, and outside temperatures reached 37°C.
But this moment stood out: a man quietly enduring the journey in his undershirt, another trying to cool off with a towel. No one complained. Everyone just coped in their own way.
Travel isn't always smooth or scenic. Sometimes it's crowded, sweaty, and slow. But it's real—and full of small, honest moments like this.
An extremely busy interchange, certainly not designed for pedestrians. Lots of traffic lights and awkward crossings... and its in the centre of town. Perhaps Shared Space could be considered....
Hazle Hall dated to 1866, a year before Markle founded his bank. Markle, Pardee and other community leaders formed the Hazle Hall Association and located its entertainment venue on the second floor of a new building at Broad and Wyoming's northwest corner. The intersection's heavy foot traffic made the location perfect, and the officers set low admission prices so all residents, regardless of income, could attend at least one show a year.
Before entering the hall, eager spectators navigated the hustle and bustle of an ever-growing commercial district. At the northwest corner, enterprising vendors set up fruit, candy and shoeshine stands, a peanut roaster enticed customers with its aromas, and Hazle Drugs, opened in 1868, operated in the building's first floor
Although one of Pennsylvania's fastest-growing cities, the intersection paradoxically displayed a sense of continuity and rapid change. Hazle Hall's auditorium transitioned into a vaudeville house. Opened in 1905, the Family Theatre featured family-friendly variety acts and short motion pictures shown on a kinetograph. The theatre now shared space with a three-story annex housing the Leichtman Ice Cream Co.'s parlor and storeroom. The Sextette, a popular social club, occupied the second floor, and the Masonic Lodge met on the third floor. Hazle Drugs still filled prescriptions on the first floor.
The Hazleton House, aged but sturdy, roomed many travelling actors who performed at the nearby Feeley Theater, and transitioned into a boarding house. The Hub, a men's clothing store, was located on the Hazleton House's first floor from the 1930s until the 1950s. Through the 1960s, the Madison Restaurant, later known as the Space restaurant, also occupied the building
The cranberry bogs in the Pinelands Preserve have shared space for people and wildlife. This particular bog has not been in use for a while and is showing signs of aquatic resurgence even though it stands by for agricultural use....What a view the frogs have!

4. Where do you work on your computer?
My computer space has been a shared space for a while even before the pandemic. I had donated the desk to my son so he could get schoolwork done and then quickly lost out on spots when my wife and daughter got spots too. I set up on the kitchen table which was always meant to be temporary, but became a bit more permanent over the years. From cats to dinners (and art projects as under the cat) it can be a crowded space.
A photo of the New Jersey & New York Railroad's "Hayshaker" local freight headed railroad westbound through Park Ridge NJ on 09-17-1973. The local is about to cross Madison Avenue with 1500HP GP7 1232 and caboose C874 and at least nine other freight cars in tow. This photo was taken from the Bratt& Doxey Building and Supply Company unloading dock. The siding that ran across Madison Avenue, in earlier years, served as a drop off point for heating coal and livestock feed for the Bradford Feed Company in earlier years. I lived just off to the left at 26 Hawthorne Avenue in a four apartment building that shared space with Joseph P. Kanya Plumbing and Heating. I spent a lot of time in my youth, especially during the summer, hanging around the railroad. The station, in earlier years, was manned by a station agent by the name of Joe Donahue. He sold tickets to the commuters, fired up the two coal stoves when needed, and communicated by telegraph key with others stations. I also helped him to unload LCL packages (Less than carload) out of boxcars to be put into the freight station for REA (Railroad Express Agency) trucks to pick up for local delivery. One of his favorite sayings was "The Indians are attacking Hillsdale" meaning a train was past Hillsdale NJ and coming our way. Joe was such a kind gentleman that my mother allowed me to go with him every Friday during his lunch break to E.J. Korvettes on Route 59 in Nanuet NY to spend my allowance on a Matchbox toy. Cherished memories of a kid growing up in Park Ridge. Howard Kent Jr.

I'm taking a break from the Sugar Mill album, as I'm bored to tears with it! I've done several shoots since February. This was from yesterday's shot at Ames Park.
My father passed away on June 6, 1999, and it's hard to believe it's been 19 years already. Dad would be 112 now! I go to Ames Park on my mother's birthday, which is today, June 7. Mom would have been 94 today. Since I had to work today, I went yesterday and honored them both in my thoughts.
My guys are so funny about beds and who gets which one. Genna doesn't like Boomer sleeping in her bed, but if he does she will stand a moment giving him the look and then just curl up along side him. On the other hand Genna never chooses Boomer's bed. At the fireplace they will lie there until they get so hot they pant.
Combining them both for week 6 of 52 weeks for dogs.
The bus stops on Broad St have repositioned away from the front of Marischal College to outside the town house and Illicit Still.
The Marischal College stop has long been a favourite for taking pictures of buses to the background of the huge granite building. Pictures are still possible as buses drive by at 5mph but there is the challenge of getting the bus without the multiple street furniture that has been added getting in the way.

Even on a rainy day, life goes on. The dove is having a shower. I've seen them do this in the bird bath when another bird is splashing water high in the air. The woodpecker just wants to eat. The two ignored each other.

In spite of the shortage of land on the .04 square kilometer island, room has been made for both indoor and outdoor basketball courts, arguably the national sport of the Philippines. Like in many small barangays or villages across the country, covered courts serve as basketball venues and community halls, hosting games, fiestas, and public events. Built in shared spaces, they’re a unifying force—central to daily life, pride, and identity.
The Metropolitan Arts Centre, usually referred to as the MAC, is an arts venue in Belfast's Cathedral Quarter and is home to all kinds of exhibitions, theatre performances, experimental works. The MAC is a cultural hub and a vital shared space in Belfast. Open 363 days per year, the MAC offers an eclectic programme of visual art, theatre, dance, family workshops and lots more. Since opening in 2012, some 1.5 million visitors have come through the doors of the MAC. Designed by Belfast-based architectural practice Hackett Hall McKnight, the MAC sits on a roughly trapezium-shaped site opposite St Anne's Cathedral. The building, completed in February 2012, consists of a number of intersecting brick volumes and a basalt tower topped with three stories of glazing. The project won a 2013 RIBA National Award and was awarded the 2014 Downes Medal by the Architectural Association of Ireland.
The Historic Peña-Peck House
Built circa 1750 by order of King Ferdinand VI for Royal Spanish Treasurer Juan Estevan de Peña, and occupied by the Peck family descendants until 1931, the Peña-Peck House is among the oldest colonial buildings in St. Augustine.
The native coquina stone house was built for Spanish Royal Treasurer Juan Estevan de Peña and his wife Maria Antonia Adrisola. The Peña’s 14-year “love affair” with their home abruptly ended in 1763 when Spain ceded Florida to Great Britain, in exchange for Havana in the Treaty of Paris.
Twenty-one years of British occupation followed as the house became the home to two governors. Acting governor John Moultrie used it as his “townhouse,” and governor Patrick Tonyn and his family lived there for nine years.
When Spain reacquired Florida in another Treaty of Paris in 1783, the Second Spanish Period began (1763-1821). During this time, Francisco Xavier Sanchez, a St. Augustine native of Spanish descent, an American Patriot during the Revolutionary War, and Florida’s first cattle rancher, bought the house in 1791. His widow Maria del Carmen Hill Sanchez and her heirs owned it until 1821.
Dr. Seth Peck moved to St. Augustine in 1833, brought his family here in 1834 and purchased the house in 1837. It was Dr. Seth Peck and his family who made it the presence it is today in this historic city. The second story wooden addition created more living space for Seth and his family. A new office for Dr. Peck and a general store shared space on the first floor with a formal dining room and a “modern kitchen.”
His descendants lived here until 1931 when Peck’s granddaughter, Anna Gardner Burt, the last owner died and left her house, furnishings, priceless antiques and artwork in a trust to the city. She was explicit in her will that it be “maintained as an example of the old ante-bellum homes of the South.” The city almost declined her gift because of the loss of future property taxes.
The Woman’s Exchange entered into an agreement with the city of St. Augustine in 1932 to maintain, manage and agreed to show the home. The Woman’s Exchange opened the house for tours May 1, 1932, the same day the Woman’s Exchange Gift Shop, formerly located in the Alcazar Hotel, also began operating in its new home.
Joshua Tree National Park is located in southeastern California. Declared a U.S. National Park in 1994 when the U.S. Congress passed the California Desert Protection Act (Public Law 103-433), it had previously been a U.S. National Monument since 1936. It is named for the Joshua trees (Yucca brevifolia) native to the park. It covers a land area of 790,636 acres (1,235.37 sq mi; 3,199.59 km2) —an area slightly larger than the state of Rhode Island. A large part of the park, some 429,690 acres (173,890 ha), is a designated wilderness area. Straddling the San Bernardino County/Riverside County border, the park includes parts of two deserts, each an ecosystem whose characteristics are determined primarily by elevation: the higher Mojave Desert and lower Colorado Desert. The Little San Bernardino Mountains run through the southwest edge of the park.
The rock formations of Joshua Tree National Park were formed more than 100 million years ago from the cooling of magma beneath the surface into monzogranite, with roughly rectangular joints. Groundwater then filtered through the joints to erode away the corners and edges to create rounded stones, and flash floods washed away covering ground to create piles of boulders. These prominent outcrops are known as inselbergs.
Hidden Valley is a self-guiding, one-mile loop trail that winds among massive boulders through what was believed to be a legendary cattle rustlers' hideout. It is one of the most popular and scenic hiking trails in Joshua Tree National Park. The area is also a popular rock-climbing area. Many visitors enjoy just watching the climbers in action.
Because of the Hidden Valley's natural encasement, a unique micro-habitat brings together a wide range of plants and animals not typically found together in other sections of the Park. Healthy populations of Joshua Tree, pinyon, juniper and oak share space with mesquite, yucca, nolina, various cacti and other species.
According to various sources, In 1936, desert pioneer Bill Keys blasted a notch through the rocks walls to improve access for his cattle herds. Today this serves as Hidden Valley's main access point.
A nearby campground is available for tenting and small RV's, 25' or less.
