As I walk through the transfer corridor at the Seoul Station subway station, I come across a painter's exhibition of paintings depicting postwar and industrialization-era Seoul. It is a far cry from the ultramodern world city that is today's Seoul, and one that many older Koreans have fond memories of.
One of the paintings, depicting City Hall Plaza sometime in the 1960s, before the construction of modern highrises - and a subway station under the plaza in 1974. The various vehicles depicted are a good indicator of the time period, including a Kia 3-wheeled truck, a few period buses, and a Shinjin Toyota Corona cab.
