A Gaze of Honesty
A quiet moment on one of my daily walking tours. I stop to say hi and a dark brown horse steps forward from the herd, meeting me the camera with steady eyes and upright ears. Behind it, companions graze peacefully in the spring-green field, framed by rolling hills and a sky washed in clear blue. I could not let this moment just fade with my memories and age.
For me, horses have always carried a deeper meaning—symbols of pride, honesty, and hard work. In this scene, the horse’s direct gaze feels almost like a greeting, a reminder of resilience and dignity in the everyday. Its shadow stretches across the grass like an echo of strength, while the white and brown horses in the distance add balance and harmony to the landscape.
This is the view I see almost every day from my office window, yet pausing here to say hello transforms the ordinary into something timeless: a fleeting encounter with grace, freedom, and the quiet poetry of rural life.
Maple tree planted in 1898.
Provided shade for countless travelers and visitors. Sadly, part split off yesterday and now it will need to be taken down. No one was injured when the split happened. Photo of the tree split is above this one.
