Some Indiana Railroad Power waiting on their next assignment at their Yard in Jasonville, IN. with the 25th Anniversary SD9043MAC 9025 head out.

Union Pacific SD9043MAC 8058 had the eastbound Z-LTCS zipping underneath the Nelson coal dock on a sunny day many years ago.

 

The dock stood until 2025, while the 8058 was sold to Norfolk Southern which rebuilt it into a SD70ACu and then sold it to Progress Rail for scrap.

CSX Q165 roars across the Erie West Sub behind a pair of Central Maine & Quebec SD40-2F's and a pair of CP locomotives, speeding over the elevated trackage through Dunkirk, New York. The train is passing by the shuttered Tower X, which is the only tower still standing east of Cleveland on this former New York Central route.

A late-running SAHW hauls through the southern Indiana countryside near Trevlac, Indiana.

Engine failure somewhere in Ohio led to Norfolk Southern 7268 being placed on the head end of Train 48, all the way into CSX territory. The engine was swapped out in Albany where the train splits into New York and Boston sections. NS SD70ACU 7268 was originally built as Union Pacific SD9043MAC 8029 in 1996.

Once the Santa Fe's longest branch, the South Orient line is now owned by the state of Texas and operated by Texas Pacifico for its nearly 400 miles from San Angelo Jct to Presidio at the Mexican border. Texas Pacifico handles a variety of traffic, but primarily hauls supplies, fracking sand, and oil for oil & gas producers in the Permian Basin of west Texas.

 

Here at Fort Stockton, a trio of big EMDs switch in the former ATSF yard. They're moving around cuts of sand hoppers for customers that sit alongside the yard.

NS Southbound Freight Train 355 waits for another crew at 2nd Avenue in Birmingham, AL. with CEFX SD9043MAC 118 leading the way.

This northbound sand train is about to hit MP 0 of the Union Pacific and transition to the former CNW to continue northward.

Deep in the woodlands of southern Indiana, INRD #9007 blasts out of the 1903 Unionville Tunnel with SAHW. The sun popped out just as the train rounded the curve behind the tunnel. The folks set up closer to the tunnel, unfortunately, weren't so lucky.

Not sure what the chances are of catching two separate locomotives with the same set of 4 numbers, but I thought that was pretty cool. Also pretty cool? Non-coal trains fronted by EMD power!

INRD 7006 leads sister 7009 across the diamond at CP Dale. This is the first trip through Indianapolis to Avon for INRD’s new SD70M’s.

Indiana Railroad SD9043MAC 9003 was taking it to the streets as it slowly rolled along J Street in Bedford on the former Monon with a military train full of ass-kickery from Crane Naval Base to Louisville in 2009.

 

Time was running out for the street running as INRD soon pulled the plug and abandoned the line a year or so later.

About to pass the border between Missouri and Kansas, (the train is in Missouri while the state line is directly under the overpass I'm shooting from), a westbound Union Pacific manifest with four spotless new EMD's charges through Kansas City's West Bottoms at C.P. Dazzling in UP's enduring Armour Yellow and Harbor Mist Gray paint scheme, today's train is led by month old SD9043MAC's, the 8131, 8133, 8137 and 8135, (all built in April, 1997). From an original group of 309 9043MAC's on UP's roster, 100 were sold to NS for rebuild in late 2014 while the remaining two thirds are currently inactive in storage.

  

CSX train K635 (Oak Island, NJ to Bensenville, IL, CP run through empty ethanol) gives CSX train Q004 (Bedford Park, IL to South Kearny, NJ, stacks) a roll by inspection at CP-238 in Bridgeview, Illinois on Indiana Harbor Belt Railroad's mainline.

 

CP SD70ACU 7013 was originally CP SD9043MAC 9126 and was built for CP by EMD in December of 1998, before being rebuilt as one of CP's heritage units.

The UP QNLBVJ with an ex-UP NS SD9043MAC, gets handed over to an NS crew at Villa Grove. They will take the train to Sidney, where it'll interchange with the NS and head east on the Lafayette District.

INRD 9009 (SD9043MAC) is on point of INRD SAHW as it waits for a new crew on the south side of Indianapolis, Indiana.

CNW AC4400CW No. 8830, UP SD9043MAC No. 8010 and SP AC4400CW No. 122 pull 107 coal empties through Spanish Fork Canyon at Castilla, Utah on Aug. 9, 1998.

A stored SD9043Mac repainted into UP's "Flag Scheme" sits at the head of a line of stored power in Roseville Yard. According the to last photo posted of this engine on rrpicturearchives this group of SD9043Mac's were stored at Klamath Falls, Oregon.

Running on trackage rights across the BNSF Midway Subdivision, Canadian Pacific intermodal train 198 rolls through the junction at Saint Anthony Park, Minnesota behind an SD70ACU. Meanwhile, a BNSF intermodal train heads west through the junction, pulling back on to the main line after working the BNSF St. Paul Intermodal Terminal.

NS manifest freight 39G grinds its way upgrade as it swings around the famous Horseshoe Curve outside Altoona, Pennsylvania. The entire front block of the train was made up a gons loaded with steel slabs, with general freight following behind the mid-train DPU's.

With SD9043MACs 9010 and 9012 leading the way, Indiana Railroad's SAHW (Senate Ave. - Hiawatha Yard) crawls over the scenic Tulip Trestle near Bloomfield, Indiana as a light rain falls. This train will end up meeting its counterpart HWSA at Switz City.

CP 7016 has paused to drop off the conductor at Red Rock, and is taking headroom for the shove into Dunn Yard, St. Paul, Minn.

Norfolk Southern empty hopper train 605 rolls through Ridgeton, Ohio with former Indiana Railroad SD9043MAC No. 7337 leading. The train would stop just north of Bucyrus as the dispatcher has just informed them that they had accidentally picked a few extra cars that were not originally supposed to be in the consist.

After being rebuilt and painted at EMD/Progress Rail in Mayfield, Kentucky, CP 7010 found its way south to CN Harrison Yard in Memphis. The unit is pictured on manifest train M33571-03 along with CP 7010 as they head north for delivery to the Canadian Pacific. CP 7010 is a SD70ACU rebuilt from SD9043MAC CP 9102.

INRD SD9043MAC 9003 passes a quaint slice of Americana at Coxton, on the INRD Chicago Sub between Williams and Bedford. The Indiana Railroad has since ripped up this trackage, abandoning this portion of the line from Crane to Bedford.

 

Built in 1999 for CIT Group/Capital Finance as CITX 126, it was then long-term leased to the Indiana Railroad for a while before being sold to Norfolk Southern, which rebuilt it as SD70ACU 7336.

 

This trackage is now the "Milwaukee Road Transportation Trailway".

An SD9043MAC with "wings" is found up front on UP train AASFX-22 creeping west on the UP KC Metro Sub between ASB JCT and Broadway on its way to UP's Quindaro Yard in the Fairfax District in Kansas City, KS. 3/22/15.

CSX train Q165, a CP run through between Buffalo and Chicago, makes a golden hour run west through Erie, Pennsylvania and passes by a stone company as it approaches what was once known as Dock Junction, now CP 89 on the CSX Erie West Sub.

With some Indiana Railroad (INRD) SD9043MACs going back to their lessor CIT/CEFX, and in some cases getting sold to the likes of Norfolk Southern, the motive power gap has apparently been filled by other CEFX locomotives possessing a variety of pedigrees. In this case, San Luis & Rio Grande SD9043MAC 116 leads what will later become INRD's HWSA train from Jasonville to Indianapolis. The yard crew has just finished putting the train together and is parking it south of Hiawatha yard on the Midland subdivision, pulling forward at Midland and backing into the siding to avoid a MoW crew working farther north.

INRD #9001 approaches the Merom Generating Station near Sullivan, Indiana with loads from Bear Run Mine. Hoosier Energy plans on closing Merom in 2023; the plant's closure will be the final nail in the coffin for INRD's dwindling coal-hauling operations.

NS 11R at Central Bridge NY on the former D&H and even got lucky with the sun 6-19-2017. This is one of the last active Norfolk Southern ex UP SD9043MAC's in service.

INRD 9011 leads SAHW south out of Indianapolis, IN.

Power for today's NS coal run to Wheatfield is a UP SD9043MAC and a patched SP C44-9W. The SD90's are all but extinct on the UP and the GE has been repainted/renumbered.

Dozens of EMD's (mostly SD40-2's, but also some GP38-2's and SD9043MAC's) populate the deadline at Weston Yard in Winnipeg.

Freshly rebuilt CP 7033 brings up the rear of ethanol train CP 650. CP 7033 was rebuilt from SD9043MAC CP 9120.

Roster shots of new power are tough to beat. An SD9043MAC and a new C44AC are at Fox Park in Council Bluffs. 100(?) of the 9043MACS were sold to NS and the 8002 is now NS7232, an SD70ACU rebuild. I miss the red frame stripes.
